Moraes Moreira, more usually regarded as composer/interpreter of happy and furiously swinging tunes based in Northeastern grooves like the frevo pernambucano, here takes a complete turn in his career. With the fine arrangements of trombone master Vittor Santos, Moreira delivers a vision of Brazil where the sophistication of the orchestral string, wood, and brass sections bring a new color to the dialogue with folkloric accordion and percussion, always using Northeastern and Southern grooves. In "Estações," he recounts the phase through which he was going at this point: a search for identity in the mature age. Not by accident, the album commemorates 25 years of his career. "Isto Aqui o Que É," the classic by Ary Barroso, here has its also classic Radamés Gnatalli introduction ignored and receives an Afro-Bahian groove, which is transformed in a juicy samba topped by Vittor's gafieira trombone solo. Several other good moments wait for listeners in this highly recommendable album.
