| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews The Osborn sisters and producer Dan Huff put a new spin on holiday music and put some funk in Christmas. Anything but country, Brand New Year is truly a treat for all music listeners. The incomparable harmonies of Kristyn, Kassidy, and Kelsi grace every song on the 12-song collection of new and old holiday music. But the Osborn sisters give their own delicious sound to tradition. "Deck the Halls," "Jingle Bells," and "Sleigh Ride" have all been consecrated with the melodious sound that is uniquely SheDaisy. And the girls give the Andrews Sisters a run for their money on "Santa's Got a Brand New Bag," sounding much like "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." Pros: Excellent vocals, instrumentalists, and arrangements.
Cons: Very few cons . . . The Rascal Flats song is somewhat deceiving with its gorgeous melody combined with mocking lyrics.
I've been a listener of Christmas pop music for years, and never have I come across an album where a single band has come up with so many great hits on a single Christmas album. Unlike other artists, Shedaisy takes traditional Christmas songs and rearranges them to fit a whole new original and modern genre. While Shedaisy and country fans will love it, even those who don't prefer country will like it as well, because the twang of steel guitars and depressing lyrics are wiped from this CD. The instrumentations are remarkable, and the vocals are nothing short of the same.
In summary, if you're looking for an uplifting and fun Christmas album that adds a unique twist to some of our favorite Christmas songs, this is the CD for you. ...
