Chicago's power trio Brain Rakes features vocalist/guitarist Fred Carli, bassist Tommy Rafferty, and drummer Dave Straka. Blending classic and contemporary influences such as David Bowie, Hendrix, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Built to Spill, the group's driving, melodic yet quirky sound is exemplified by their self-titled debut EP, which Brain Rakes recorded at Chicago's legendary King Size studio. The band closed out 2001 by continuing to tour and record songs for their first full-length release.
