Brain Age is a game of mathematical equations, logic puzzles, reading exercises, and more with the curious goal of stimulating a player’s gray matter. Based on the research of Japanese neurologist Ryuta Kawashima, the premise behind Brain Age is that certain regions of the brain can become more active, more "healthy," through specific, timed exercises repeated on a daily basis. Played with the touch screen positioned on either the left or right side, like a book, the game involves using the stylus to jot down numbers, draw lines between dots, and so forth, while the microphone is used for calling out colors, reading passages aloud, and various other functions.

Kawashima himself serves as the game’s host and will offer pointed criticism or words of encouragement based on each test’s results. The object is to make one’s brain "younger" over time by playing each day for weeks or even months. Progress is charted via graph over a specified time period, with up to a year’s worth of data stored in each of the game’s four save files. Among the included activities are Syllable Count, Reading Aloud, Word Memory, Stroop Test, Speed Counting, Triangle Math, Connect Maze, Calculation, Head Count, and Low to High. The logic puzzle game Sudoku is also featured as a bonus, while up to 16 players can compete in a race to solve math problems. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

    Pros: Educational

Cons: Wish it had more things to do

I love this game. I brought for my 12 and 9 year olds but played it myself and loved it. My son has A.D.D. and it makes him want to keep trying to beat not just our scores but his score, too. I feel this is a good game for someone who is competative ...and gets frustrated when it comes to doing something educational. I take more different versions of this game over any other games especially the violent ones. Read more Less

Pros: once you start, you can't stop, surprisingly addictive

Cons: handwriting recognition could be better, more mini games

Brain Age is just what the doctor could order for increasing and unlocking anyone's brain potential. Through simple exercises such as math equations, reading aloud, perception games,,this game offers the player a chance to not only flex their bra...in IQ but make it stronger. The game utilizes they DS stylus and microphone in a seamless fun experience. Doing math and word problems doesn't sound like fun,,but yet somehow this game makes not only enjoyable but addictive. The first time I heard about a game called Katamari Damacy, I remember thinking 'so what , you roll a big ball around and pick up stuff,,how fun could that be?' And then I played it and somehow it was the most fun I had had on a game system in a long while. The fun factor of Brain Age is the same way. I only wish there were more mini games to "train" my brain on. Read more Less
