I do not believe the person who wrote the review following mine has really studied the different styles between Boxcar Racer and Blink 182! Yes, Boxcar Racer may sound alot like Blink but that is because Tom is singing. I think that these two bands h...ave two different styles going. Boxcar racer has incorporated a little bit of modern alternative music into their punk sound. Also there are some very pretty songs that you would never hear on any of Blink's cd's, such as track 10. This cd is great for chillin out or on the go, I think Tom and Travis have got themselves another hit band! Buy the CD you won't be disapointed! Later On.... Mike Read more Less

If anyone ever got the feeling that, in spite of its success, blink-182 has strayed much farther from its roots than the band ever expected possible (and possibly ever wanted), one listen to the eponymous disc from the side project of members Travis Barker and Thomas DeLonge would provide even more evidence. Boxcar Racer removes the tongue-in-butt-cheek juvenility of the multi-platinum pop stars, and what remains could fit in perfectly alongside any of the emo output on indie labels such as Jade Tree. While blink-182 is known for providing poppy punk, this is as different as Bad Religion is to the band, just in the opposite direction, but the main divergence is lyrics that are retrospective and thoughtful -- witness "Watch the World," which could fit on a Dashboard Confessional record, with a libretto that boarders on poetry. This is a far cry from the party-boy ethos DeLonge is best known for, and he wears the emotional depth well, with songs that are just as hooky as from his bread-w...inning main squeeze. - Brian O'Neill, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Boxcar Racer

Serving as a side project for Blink 182 members Travis Barker and Thomas DeLonge, Boxcar Racer is a return to a more traditional punk sound. Adding guitarist David Kennedy and bassist Anthony Celestino, the group came together between Blink 182 sessions and recorded their eponymous album in the winter of 2001/2002. Cutting much of the pop from their usual sound and show... Read more
