After several public and critical successes, João Bosco was enjoying a phase of great selfconfidence in 1989, and this album wholly composed by himself (with the exception of "El Manisero") marks a departure point from where he would try different languages with no purism. Funk sounds, jazzinspired sax solos, and even atonalism in small fadeout sections are experimented with here, with the song "Jade" being the highlight in terms of melody/harmony. Caribbean rhythms are heard in his heavily rhythmic version with his trademark in the improvised vocals for "El Manisero," and interesting Bahian folklore research is evident in "Sassaô."
