I remember going by myself to see "Born" one sunny Saturday afternoon in December of 1989...
There were maybe a dozen people in the theater...
I remember weeping openly when Tom Cruise (Ron Kovic) returns to his home in Long Island in a wheelchair...I cried right on through the scene in the bedroom when Kovic's father (brilliantly played by Raymond J. Barry) hugs his son and tells him he's glad he's home...
Any film that can generate that kind of emotion is worth seeing and cheering about.
This new DVD edition has a wonderful commentary by Oliver Stone....Stone finds himself choking up as he describes the same scene....
I really don't care if the "police riot" at Syracuse University actually never occured...or if Kovic wasn't roughed up by Republican goon squads at the 1972 Republican Convention..."Born" is what great filmmaking is all about.
