| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Danny the Wildchild has been a fixture on the American rave scene for years. Hailing from Chicago, he was an active member in the first group of Chicago jungle DJs, along with Phantom 45 and 3-D, to break out of their hometown and bring drum'n'bass to the house- and techno-saturated Midwest. But what always held Danny the Wildchild apart from the rest was his incredible turntable abilities. Not content to simply mix records, he mastered the art of hip-hop-style turntablism, pulling tricks and beat juggling like a DMC champion. While almost any 1995 raver worth his UFOs has at least one Danny the Wildchild mixtape in his or her collection, this is the DJ's first proper mix CD. And while the mix is a well-rounded sampling of the flavors of global drum'n'bass, with an extra emphasis on round fat bass lines, there is very little of the DJ trickery one would expect. In fact, besides a little bit of expertly performed scratching in the first mix, there is no indication that anyone is actually playing these records. Because of this severe oversight, Booked is no better or worse than hundreds of other jungle mixes on the market. Which isn't to say it's bad.
