The debut EP by Stockholm's Bob Hund -- not to be confused with their full-length debut the following year, which was also self-titled -- is a 20-minute burst of hyperactively strummed electric guitars, whooshing vintage synths, and the sort of raggedy angular but basically poppy song structure that explains why this band is often described as Sweden's answer to Pavement. Certainly the lightly mocking "ooh ooh" backing vocals in "Rundgang, Graslok, Fagelsang" and the lo-fi sonic aggression of "Fotoalbumet" (all the titles and lyrics are in Swedish) sound similar to Stephen Malkmus and crew. But Bob Hund have too many influences to be pigeonholed so easily: But for the vocals pa Svenska, "Kompromissen" could have been a '70s arena rock standard along the lines of classic Queen. Perhaps a little more accessible than Bob Hund's aggressively eclectic later albums, this six-song EP is a fine introduction to one of the odder bands of the Swedish indie scene of the '90s.
