  • Overall:

    A CD you must own

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 23, 2000 | 1 out of 1 found this Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits review helpful

This CD is compiled with a mix of my favorite songs by Bob Dylan, whether it be folk or rock, I still love it. I am a huge fan of Bob Dylan and I own every single one of his CD's and this one would probably be my favorite. The whole CD gives out a m...ixture of feelings, but by the end of the album I feel as ever content and happy. A MUST HAVE. Read more Less

    Really great Dylan stuff...no junk.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 9, 2001

I just recently started getting into Bob Dylan through a friend. I listened to 'Rainy Day Women' and though it was very humorous. My interpretation of the song is that Bob says we all 'must get stoned' once in a while and have fun along with it. T...his is a good mixture of blues/folksy tunes from the master poet himself (whom I now believe is so). Dylan is a complex storyteller, so you may not know what he says. Take for example on 'Like A Rolling Stone' and 'Positively 4th Street'. Dylan really plays a mean harmonica and sometimes loud, but there aren't many original artists out there. Dylan will always belong to every generation. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits

  • All Music Guide

Arriving in 1967, Greatest Hits does an excellent job of summarizing Dylan's best-known songs from his first seven albums. At just ten songs, it's a little brief, and the song selection may be a little predictable, but that's actually not a bad thing, since this provides a nice sampler for the curious and casual listener, as it boasts standards from "Blowin' in the Wind" to "Like a Rolling Stone." And, for collectors, the brilliant non-LP single "Positively Fourth Street" was added, which provided reason enough for anybody that already owned the original records to pick this up. This has since been supplanted by more exhaustive collections, but as a sampler of Dylan at his absolute peak, this is first-rate.

Biography

Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan's influence on popular music is incalculable. As a songwriter, he pioneered several different schools of pop songwriting, from confessional singer/songwriter to winding, hallucinatory, stream-of-conscious narratives. As a vocalist, he broke down the notions that in order to perform, a singer had to have a conventionally good voice, thereby redefining the role ... Read more
