Pro Reviews: Blues for the New Millennium

  • All Music Guide

Blues for the New Millennium (not to be confused with the Marcus Roberts album of the same name) is a sampler featuring two to three cuts apiece from the contemporary electric soul-blues artists on the Mississippi-based Hep' Me label; their ranks include Syl Johnson, keyboardist/singer Sweet Miss Coffy, Senator Jones, Joe Mar, Pat Brown, and trumpet/keyboard player and singer Harrison Callaway. Several songs are duplicated in different mixes, but overall, the repetition doesn't hurt the comp's playability all that much.
