IF YOU LIKE THIS MUSIC YOU HAVE A PROBLEM CASE CLOSED IT SUX
A ragtag trio of Britfag throwbacks got together their last remaining brain cells and blew the dance world away. This must have proves that the universe is chaotic and at the same time quite ordered. As does our mental connection we feel together right now.
this is cool music for night walks and action.i love the voice of Sarah Nelson.
I can't believe it's 10 years since Massive Attack first burst onto the scene with the unforgettable Unfinished Sympathy (with Shara Nelson's stunning vocal, lest we forget) This album hasn't aged one bit, yet it seems like a lifetime since Blue Lines first came out. As a rock fan, I'm not easily impressed by soul and dance records, but this stands as an album in a class of its own. Most impressive of all is the way they blended together elements of hip-hop, dub reggae and cool funk and soul to create a dazzlingly sublime, mellow sound that was (to quote 'Q' Magazine) designed "for the head first and the feet second". This is one of the few records in history that has genuinely launched 1,000 imitations - just ask Tricky, Nearly God, Maxwell etc.
my blue lines cd still gets heavier rotation on my player than protection and mezzanine despite having had it for 6 years already. take note of the appearances of tricky and horace andy, artists who later became bigger icons in their respective fields. shara nelson provides vocals to one of the best songs of the decade, 'unfinished sympathy', and the fantastic opener, 'safe from harm'. sweet, sexy, and soulful, it is proof that you don't need to be loud to be dark. one of the most unheralded gems in music; if you don't have this cd yet, please buy it online NOW. you'll see why everyone who's posted a message here gives blue lines the 5 stars it so richly deserves. it's been 10 years since its release, but the beauty of blue lines hasn't tarnished a bit.
'Protection' is a bit too formatted with it's neat two halves and each singer doing just two songs, one in each half. On Blue Lines, everything's a lot more random and emotive, 3D and Tricky seemingly rapping wherever they get the chance to, and Daddy G's menacing boom seeping in and out of audability. Although 'Five Man Army' and the track 'Blue Lines' are close contenders, the best track has to be 'Unfinished Sympathy', and its Shara Nelson who really makes this album what it is: faultless. It would've been nice to hear more out of Tony 'Be Thankful For What You've Got' Bryan, though.
Great album, the creators of Trip Hop, Massive Attack, have treated us with a smooth and cool album that still sounds fantastic today. Worth 5/5 just for the last song "Hymn Of The Big Wheel", this Earth Prayer is a spectacular ending to a great album.
This is one of the best albums ive ever heard.....and ive heard lots of albums. One of the best of all time, a great idea. Pure, imaginitive and genius.
