Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses (1993)
, January 1, 2006Pros: Awesome foray of moody bombastic tunes....
Cons: Few meddling places....
Type O's 3rd release and hit the '3 fruit lineup' with it..."Bloody Kisses"...This album really is interesting to listen to, maybe not right away and may take a few listens to get into it, but once you do....it rocks and will stick on you.
NOTE: There are 2 different versions of this...one is digipack with less songs and one is regular release. Each one take/give a bonus track.
The song "Christian Woman" is a 3 part type suite of songs, the middle section really is sad sounding, kinda a teary foray of slow music...The title track is pretty awesome and drags on like 10 minutes, alot of the songs go along at such a slow pulsating beat but really suck you in. The album favorite im sure would be the Seals and Crofts cover..."Summer breeze" featured on "I know what you did last summer" I believe the soundtrack...Other standouts are "We Hate Everyone" and "Too Late:Frozen" plus "Blood and fire"...Of course the signature one would be the mega epic long "Black No. 1"..which sounded like Count Chocula singing first time I heard it.
Summing it up....Type O's probaly most commercial release of their career to date and an awesome journey through some fine goth...pick this up beacuse it's one of those future classics. RR ...

Pro Reviews: Bloody Kisses
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Bloody Kisses was Type O Negative's major step forward, maintaining the long, repetitive song structures of albums past, but adding more atmospheric synths and left-field Beatlesque pop melodies. The quantum leap in songwriting is what really drives the album, but it also coincides with a newfound sense of subtlety. Aside from a couple of smart-aleck rants, Peter Steele's dark, melodramatic songs address heartbreak and loneliness in what sounds at first like deadly serious overkill. But not far beneath the surface, he's also satirizing his own emotional excesses, and those of goth rock in general. Steele's lyrics gleefully wallow in goth clichés -- sex, death, Christianity, vampires, more sex, and death -- and he even sings most of the album in an intentionally vampiric croon straight from the depths of an ancient crypt. Among other things, that delivery lends hilarious irony to a glum cover of Seals Crofts' soft rock hit "Summer Breeze"; it's also perfect for the deadpan mockery of the goth-girl character sketch "Black No. 1." Hardly any of the songs need to be as long as they are, but that ridiculous excess is all part of Type O Negative's sly, twistedly affectionate sendup of goth rock conventions. Though it sounds like a funeral, Bloody Kisses' airy melodicism and '90s-style irony actually breathed new life into the flagging goth metal genre, and the album is an often overlooked forerunner to alternative metal's limited appropriation of goth style. - Steve Huey, All Music Guide |

Pros: The Type O sound starts to emerge
Cons: Very little to complain about
This is the album where Type O started to get it's fanbase and airplay on the radio and MTV.
This album isn't as negative as Slow, Deep And Hard; but it is pure Type O Negative.
Great cover of Summer Breeze.
