    I see "Blood" as Ivo Watts-Russell's attempt to bring 4AD into the 90s. Some sharp differences exist between the first two releases and the last This Mortal Coil album-- indeed, there are moments on "Blood" that are almost funky.     grime encrusted grail

    Sallow lyrics fall under our expectations for this darling band, This Mortal Coil, even though we are to understand that sometimes our little coil tends towards the pubescent sentiment. A pubescent sentiment does not underlay the song involving a li...ttle girl singing about her adult lover tries our desire to slit the wrist that weighs us away from cruel critique. However, the song I Am the Cosmos is infantile, much in the way that Kangaroo is infantile, neither of which song is poised with the grace of My Father or Song to the Siren.Blood has a weakness to it in that none of the holy grace that can be found in the earlier music seems to work itself into a grand architecture of mourning, and Blood stays simply a haphazzard collection of pretty notes strung along babyminded words.     One of Mortal Coil's best albums, however, they are all excellent and are highly recommended. I've been following Mortal Coil for over ten years now and it just gets better every time.

    I had never listened to anything like this in my whole life. There is not one complain I could think of for this album. It masterfully combines some of history's sweetest voices with complex composition to make anyone with ears fall in love with the...ir stereo system. I listened to it when I was 12 years old, and up to date (18) I can count with the fingers of one hand any albums comparable to this one. Listen on! Read more Less
