    The single greatest album ever made. The Chili Peppers are not on my Label, not my favorite band, nor even in my favorite genre, but this record is the climax of music. Though produced over 12 years ago, I still can not let this title out of my sight.... I still listen to it as often as a southern rock fan listens to Freebird. I just cant give it appropriate praise. You can really tell this album was recorded in a haunted house because its spirit just will not die. If you do not own this then let me know, I will GIVE you my old two worn out cds. If you have not heard Blood Sugar Sex Magic then Buy it now right here and avoid my extreme sorrow for you. The Chilis have had John back for the last two records and they have been good, but I still have hope, that they can someday re-find the Magic!     ...this isn't rap-rock. Whoever said that is retarded. This is a funk fried, hot sh*t, do it like you mean it or get out of the way influential rock cd. Keadis' vocals jump and pull and twist and turn and rip at you head, heart, and groin. This a...lbum is one of them. One of the different, unique, and balls-out transforming the list of what it means to rock, roll, and scream. They did it right. This is the album that made the RHCP who they are today. It was their transformation from kid-punk-skate-or-die era, into creative intricacy known only by a couple of handful of bands...ever. One of the 50 greatest albums EVER MADE. Read more Less

    The Red Hot Chili Peppers' best album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik benefits immensely from Rick Rubin's production John Frusciante's guitar is less overpoweringly noisy, leaving room for differing textures and clearer lines, while the band overall is more focused and less indulgent, even if some of the grooves drag on too long. Lyrically, Anthony Kiedis is as preoccupied with sex as ever, whether invoking it as his muse, begging for it, or boasting in great detail about his prowess, best showcased on the infectiously funky singles "Give It Away" and "Suck My Kiss." However, he tempers his testosterone with a more sensitive side, writing about the emotional side of failed relationships ("Breaking the Girl," "I Could Have Lied"), his drug addictions ("Under the Bridge" and an elegy for Hillel Slovak, "My Lovely Man"), and some hippieish calls for a peaceful utopia. Three of those last four songs (excluding "My Lovely Man") mark the band's first consistent embrace of lilting acoustic balladry,... and while it's not what Kiedis does best as a vocalist, these are some of the album's finest moments, varying and expanding the group's musical and emotional range.
