    Improving on a Classic

    Pros: Improved definition of sound, separation

    The artist and the album speak for themselves. These are the songs that most Bob Dylan fans know forwards and backwards. Besides that, the new DSD mastering and the 5.1 SACD mix is staggering. The sound is staged at the front of the room with incr...edible separation. Dylan is isolated in the center with his distinct voice and harmonica, and the backing band flanks him on the left and right. The surround channels are filled with mostly ambiance, though well-produced. The loose feel of "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" is amplified by the use of ambience to emphasize the close-quarter jam session sound of the recording. Even if you already own a stereo copy, this is worth it for the 5.1 mix. Read more Less
