    Kiki_21_c is clueless...pay no attention

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 17, 2002 | 1 out of 1 found this Blazing Saddles (1974) review helpful

"Blazing Saddles" had everything, slapstick, farce, and took everyone to task, not just putting down Blacks, or Jews, but everyone, mostly Whites for thinking that we are, in some way, superior to other races. Give me a break, Kiko, the biting social... commentary that underlies the storyline is perfect. Mel Brooks, along with a very talented set of writers, including a young Richard Pryor, made social commentary funny, and that's not easy now, much less in the racially charged early 70's. Ahead of its time

    Pros: Production values, digital remastered

Cons: May be miscontrued by the easily offended.

One of Mel Brooks controversial films is also a comic gem; he broke the norm and wasn't afraid to write. Warning though: if an individual is NOT familiar with the previous filmmakers, like Marlene Dietrich, they may not understand the role Madeli...ne Kahn portrayed. Only HE can get away with this type of film, especially at the time it was made- a breaking of the norm in society. Lots of sexual indications and profane actions, albeit my oxymoronic criticism loves it- very hysterical and recommended for the open minded. Read more Less

This movie is the greatest comedy

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 28, 2002

Why is this film so good? First, Mel Brooks directed it. Second, it is always funny to see things people always think of to go right in your face with little concern from the characters, and let's face it, mindless is funny. Just look at Spaceballs a...nd Robin Hood: Men In Tights. I recommend this movie for all who like direct abuse. Read more Less

    Blazing Saddles

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 14, 2002

Very good example of its type of comedy - farce/slapstick with a little spoof thrown in. Clevon Little is outstanding, with Wilder and Korman also quite good. Certainly one of Mel Brooks' best films, although the claim could probably be made that "Yo...ung Frankenstein" is better as it appeals to a broader audience and has less purely shock humor. The Farrelly brothers could do with several (more) screenings of Brooks' work. Read more Less

    The Granddaddy of Gross Out

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 5, 2001

"Blazing Saddles" broke all the records, which makes this outrageous comedy a timeless classic that never ages. We will always love and remember Brooks and company in trademark roles such as Brooks himself as the lecherous governor and Yiddish-speak...ing Indian Chief, Harvey Korman as the crafty attorney general Hedley Lamarr, and the late Madeline Kahn in her signature role as the lusty German chanteuse Lilli Von Shtupp. Read more Less

I absoloutly worship this film. Its my second favourite ever (behind the mighty 'Fish called Wanda'). The story line is impeccable, the jokes had me gasping for air the first time I saw this film and still do now....thats rare these days. The charac...ters are awesome and the twist at the end is not expected at all. Overall I can't fault this film at all . If ever there was perfection on film, this is it. Read more Less

away with this stuff? He's Mel Brooks, that's how. Put your sensitivities on hold and you might see some fools. Personally, I stayed away from the mirror for a full week. This is humor at its best. Mel, please do an updated version, we've got some n...ew icons that need deflating. Read more Less

    Best movie by Mel Brooks?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 13, 2000

Maybe. I like Young Frankenstein or Space Balls more, but this is still a great movie. Especially the very end. Love the musical number.
