Pros: action
Cons: none
Blade is an action-adventure film more than it is a horror film. The only real horror element is the presence of vampires who sucks blood, but the vampires aren't scary. The movie's twist on the legend is that the vampires have been around so long that they're really a subspecies of man, not just a group of shadowy nightstalkers. The vampires have their own set of "Elders" that runs things -- including multinational corporations and other capitalist endeavors. The Elders wear suits and delivers commands to the younger vampires, who are starting to distrust them and turning to Deacon Frost for leadership instead.
The vampires are shown as like any other group of humans -- in fact, they appear like a minority grooup instead of bloodsuckers. When Frost starts getting too powerful and is collecting his own army of young, rebellious vampires, the Elder vampires are disturbed and more than a little afraid. Their kids are turning against them! These are interesting subplots, but unfortunately they're not explored nearly enough. In fact, the above statements were taken from just a couple of scenes from the entire movie!
Pros: Very impressive sound track and story line...
Cons: Perhaps a bit long...
When I first read about Blade I was a bit skeptical. There are just too many blood and guts movies out there, and I was afraid this might be just one more.
But I took a chance, based on a couple of reviews I'd read, and must say I was most pleased.
The story centers around Blade, the title character played by Wesley Snipes. Blade is half-human, half-vampire and tortured by the anguish his two sides cause him. His sole reason for existence is to search out and destroy a race of vampires that is living among us humans and intending to take over the Earth.
From the opening scenes of the movie the viewer is taken through a breathtaking series of events that is relentless and perfectly paced. Snipes is well cast as the hunter who uses both high-tech weaponry as well as a lethal sword he carries on his back. The special effects work well, as does the pounding sound track. And if you like martial arts, you'll simply love this movie. There is a great deal of bloodletting and gore, yet like another of my favorties, George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, this movie does it quite stylistically.
The result is a very good escape from reality for a couple of hours. I was impressed enough that I'm going to buy the sequel, Blade II.
Blade is the best movie i have seen in a long time. They make it look so real.No one but wesley snipes could have done it better same goes for S.Dorff as Decan Frost.
This is Wesley Snipes best movie ever.It has awesome stunts and a great storyline.I reccomend this movie to everyone.Vampire fan or not you'll love it.Just so you know Blade 2 is a horrible movie.

But it won't be too easy, Frost has his own unit of skilled vampires ready to stop Blade at all costs- or so he thought.
Review: I remember watching this movie when it first came on video, I just didn't like the original trailer I saw for Blade very much. Add in the fact that Marvel had not ever made a successful comic- to movie hero... Spawn was released a year earlier and I was sort of disappointed the way that turned out. The critics bashed this one to death along with the sequel, I guess they can't handle dark movies, probably 90% of critics don't understand the horror genre either. So when I finally did saw Blade and I realized it was something special, sure enough it was. A sequel followed up to in four years, but enough talk about the second installment I will give you the best opinion on Blade I have. The movie is a action/horror and its filled with lots of violence, guns, rude language, and a fair amount of gore. In the beginning of the film, some dude is going to a party and he is walking through a meat factory. Sure enough its not just any regular party but a whole lair of vampires are there waiting to feast on blood- there is an actual sprinkler system set-up too. The best entrance to a movie I've ever seen then happens, Blade makes his presence known and shows of all the nice shiney weapons too... weapons galore. Sure enough Blade wipes out a good amount of bloodsuckers at the party and the vampire nations start becoming worried. Frost is running quote "wild" parties that are getting out of hand, but he is a rebel and doesn't listen. Blade has been following Frost for several years but he still hasn't gotten to him yet. Blade's sidekick in the movie is a man in his late 50's called Whistler, he and Blade set up a whole facility (in a vast empty building) dedicated just for hunting vampires. The facility is their home, and its Blade's life: by taking out each vampire he makes some avengeance for his mother being bitten and his own infection. The movie drags somewhat until the vampires take Dr. Jensen hostage and kill off Whistler, or so everyone thought. Blade wants redemption for his sidekick being killed (in which we are fooled) so he goes where Frost is planning a rise of the Blood God in a vaccant building, Frost needs Blade's blood so he makes the daywalker come to him. All of the sudden all havoc breaks lose, Blade arrives full force in his motorcycle and starts kicking more @$%. There is a security breach and quickly Frost realizes Blade has arrived he arrives with a group of guards and they pummel the daywalker to the ground. The vampires with Frost then force Blade into a device to draw his blood, he is rescued shortly by Dr. Jensen and goes to stop Frost. But he arrives too late, Frost is ulmightly and nearly invinceable, a final showdown insues with both of their tite swords. And it evenutally ends with Blade kicking capsules of serum into Frost's head, its almost like the writers ran out of ideas to kill him off. He turns into a big red mess and literally explodes! The ending sets up the beginning to the sequel, well not exactly. If you want a good action/horror movie not to take too seriously I think this would be a good pick, Blade is a guilty pleasure.
Overall rating: 8/10
Comic book hero bought to life..Great for any collection. Blade II even better.
this had the best special affects in it and it was also funny to me.
The fight coreagraphy is the the strong point
of this movie. Horror and action have always
been one of my favorite combinations. The
vampire makeup was something to remember!
Followed by an even better sequal. Thairs
no dout fans of both action and horror will
like blade.P.S also has a couple good jolts
now and then.
What a movie, this is one of my favorites. Most vampire movies are weak in explaining the origins and weaknesses of vampires, but Blade is in-depth. What a movie. Wesley Snipes is a sword wielding super-hero. This movie gets the adrenaline pumping. From the first fight scene to the last this is heart pumping action. See this movie.
Blade is a good vampire action film. My favorite scene is where Wesley Snipes has the sword battle with Stephen Dorff.
This is definitely my all-time most favorite movie. I've watched it over and over, and it still gives me the shivers, each time. Thanks Snipes for representing!
This is a great movie, waiting to see blade 2 soon
I can watch it over and over again.
still enjoyable everytime i watch
this is by far the best comic adaptation of a movie hope spider-man does half as good somethign was not worth seeing in partd but it makes up with stine cold action groovy baby
This movie is just excellent! Believe me when I say that Wesley Snipes was born for the role of Blade! I have the region 2 DVD, and the extras are up to standered.
Stephen Dorff's character is just deliciously vile and ruthless! (Check out the scene when he is stompping on a guy's head.
There some of the most gory and violent fight sequences ever witnessed in cinematic history!
The scene where Blade beats up every single henchman while going for his sword is just cool!
Go and buy it!
this movie has everything you could ask for in a movie.
This is movie was the best action/adventure/horror movie that I have seen in a long time. With drama, comedy, suspense, and great special effects.... this movie is truely one of a kind. With it's Matrix like effects, great plot, and the suspense between Snipes and Dorff is just astronomical!!!!
With Snipes a half human/half vamp after to kill all the vamp race and Dorff a vampire wanting to kill the entire human race by summoning a blood god w/ the blood of a day walker..... THIS IS A MUST SEE MOVIE!!!!
Wesley Snipes is in top form as the vampire slayer out to kill the vampires who put the bite on his mother. Stephen Dorff gets all the acting kudos as the vicious but charming Deacon Frost who needs to preserve Blade in order to put a diabolical plan to take control of the human race into action.
With Matrix like special effects, an excellent, pulsating techno soundtrack, out of this world martial arts sequences and A LOT of blood and gore, Blade is sure to leave any movie goers gasping by the end.
A real winner!!!
This move was one of the best i have ever seen you can't beet blood, disco's and vampiers all raped in to one film
