Being a student, up to the minute email alerts are not on my requirements when I bought it. The 7100g takes a little bit of time to get used to but taking that time will allow you to enjoy the features in the future. I have not yet had any problems with reception with calling that I have not had with regular cell phones. The problem could be your reception in that area or your service provider. Talking in public places have other noises to deal with, so either buy an ear piece or move to a area with less noise. (If you are on a public bus or train please tell the person you will call back later, its annoying and you look stupid talking to when no one else is)

Cons: Awkward as a phone, hard to get/send email, complicated overall
I wanted something where I could answer my email while not at home so I got the Blackberry. I was disappointed 12 hours after I got it because as a phone it is awkward to use. Later I realized I rarely received my email, and I called support a dozen times ~ which led me nowehere. The rest of the functions are somewhat difficult to navigate as well. Finally I gave up. It looks cool, but it is too complicated to use. Never again.

It is near impossible to hold a conversation if there is any background noise. I hate this phone and have never experienced a worse product.

If this is your first multipurpose comunication device, you may like it. But if you had PDA phones in the past you will probably hate this one as much as I do. If you like Blackberry for the "TEXT ONLY" E-mail function, then the FREE tag on the device is ok (they make all the money from the plan of course). Not a good tool to stay organized or browse the net, unfortunately. Nice attempt at multi-function, but still needs lots of work. Wait for the next generation (if they don't lose the infringement lawsuit, that is)... ~:(

From what I read so far of user reviews, I would not waste my time and money investing this product. And the irony of this is that NBC's Today Show makes you think you really need this device! Sorry, NBC, I won't listen to any more of YOUR product overviews!
I didn't know what a "Blackberry" was until I saw these reviews here in Yahoo!. I trust more on the people who wrote the low rating reviews than the ones with the high ratings, since the low raters seem to be more computer knowledgable. Any device that has a high rate of crashes and functions as being slow and slow downloads, is not worth the money. Recommend investing in the Palm devices more than this one.Was this review helpful? Internet speeds are as fast as the ones we experienced back in 1992 and I am not kidding. The applications that I need for medical were very much lacking and I consequently returned to my palm PDA. We have several years until this product will be worth my time.
Sorry to be mean but this product should not be sold - IMHO.
