Pro Reviews: Black Hole

  • All Music Guide

In keeping with the cosmological phenomenon of the title, this is John Barry in big, bold terms -- there is certainly no mistaking the style, with its swirling string figures and forceful horns. Unfortunately, Disney have never seen fit to accommodate a CD release of the film's music (perhaps because the film itself was such an expensive embarrassment to the company), rendering the vinyl release an expensive collector's item. John Barry fans will note that the music includes something not often seen from Barry -- an overture. Curiously enough, this is a rather benign piece of music that seems to have little in common with the rest of the music.
