Pro Reviews: Black Flower

  • All Music Guide

Folk troubadour Don Michael Sampson has been described by various reviewers as having a poets eye, soul, and spirit. Here he pays tribute to some of the poets, both lyric and visual, who have inspired him: Jack Kerouac, Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg, Paul Gauguin, and Vincent Van Gogh among them. Like most of Sampson's work, it's full of subtle melodies, sparse guitar, and intimate story songs. Black Flower is second in a three-disc trilogy Sampson released in early 2002.
