Pros: Refreshing take on old ( and, in some cases, tired) godgame genre.
Cons: Takes a bit getting used to, movement and dealling with 'familiar' especially
As strategy gamer from way back - I remember Civ 1 coming out! - I've always liked godgames so the a game that actually made you a god (in the mould of Populous) was highly appealing.
Black & White looks good. Due to time constraints - and the fact that I'm also a RPGer from way back so deeply immersed in System Shock 2 & the BG and Theif series - I never really fully got into the game proper but the tutorial and initial sections showed heaps of promise.
I found the interface a little bit clumsy ("clunky" is far too harsh a word), especially movement; the game was, perhaps, designed with wheel mice particularly in mind.
Also getting to grips with what D&Ders might call a familiar (in my case here, a cow!) was also a little fraught but I'm sure if I'd spent more time with B&W, it would have become second nature.
Imagine you are a god and you determine the fate of your people. You have almost limitless power.
Great graphics! Awesome playability. You can't lose, you play how you like. You also create a Titan - A creature of your liking which is very customizable. The Best feature coming soon is the release of an add-on that will take this online - You will bring your titan online to play in a new world with others creatures
I kind of stink at video games but I was drawn to this one because of the seemingly elementary controls (you have just a hand and no onscreen menu explaining everything all at once). I bought it after many people told me it was the greatest game they had ever played, I might agree if I ever figure it out. I'll probably play it until I do, but until then, I feel like I need someone there explaining how things work, all the time. Speaking of which If anyone is a video game tutor my number is 555-... I'm just kidding.
As I was saying every 5 seconds or so someone is pleading (praying I guess) for something else "we need food" so I miracle some food too 'em and then "we need wood" so I give 'em a whole forest and then "We need food" again. It makes me mad them ordering around their god you know? They should be saying "Oh holy Lord, thanks for the wood" sometimes, but they don't, so I take out my anger by throwing some people into the side of a mountain. Oops! Now I have claws on my hand. I have a great respect for God now; he's got a hard job.
