    poorly engineered

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 7, 2009

    Pros: cleans well when works

    Cons: no customer support

had for about 1 yr. used maybe 6 times. brush assembly has a metal gear that spins in plastic. friction causes the gear to heat the plastic and melt causing the gear to freeze to the plastic. contacted bissell and was told to take for service. nowhere where i live is service. asked to sent me the part and was told that they dont have parts. if they make the unit, shouldnt they have parts? upset i just ordered the parts from a parts dealer online. Wont buy another bissell product as they dont stand behind their machines.

Clogged Sprayers - Check inside heater also

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 5, 2008 | 1 out of 2 found this Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech 7901-1 review helpful

Pros: Cleans well when it works

Cons: Water sprayers stop working, soap reservoir leaks

Cons listed above have been a problem almost since first use. Because of these problems, generally only used when we had to, because it leaks water all over the floor and fighting with the sprayers was getting frustrating. Recently (maybe after 15 hours of total use?), the sprayers stopped working all together. Part of me felt like chucking it due to the noted problems, but based on the first review above, I decided to take it apart and clean it. Turned out no plug in the heater outlet, but since I was already there anyway, decided to tear the heater down & take a look inside. That was the problem. There were some sort of white deposits blocking the water flow that could be scraped out with a screwdriver. Haven't fired it back up yet, but I'm sure that was the problem. So, I guess the lesson learned is that if you tear it all the way down to the heater to look for deposits, might as well clean out the heater too & stave off another round of frustration.

    ADD on to blockage problem

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 8, 2005 | 2 out of 2 found this Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech 7901-1 review helpful

    Pros: seems ok

    Cons: needs regular maintenance

thanks to the guy who worked out the blockage problem....we are in a hard water area and the heater unit was blocked....I went one further and took the heater apart and inside there were more mineral deposits just waiting to block it up again....MAKE SURE YOU MARK THE PARTS BEFORE DISCONNECTING ANYTHING....as an engineer I understand the problems...make sure you know what your doing when you strip down the components. TIP...If you have a digital camera take photos of where the components fit before dismantling...makes life easy

    This thing is junk

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 5, 2005 | 0 out of 1 found this Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech 7901-1 review helpful

    Pros: works the first time

    Cons: stops spraying

    Bissel model 7901-6 pro-heat advatage.

First problem, the thing stopped spraying.

Also the tool attachment suction is lousy. It left the chair quite wet. I used a shop vac to try to suck up the excess water. I was amazed at the amount of water I was able to recover.

I would never buy it again with what I know now. Stay away from this piece of junk.

    Read Instructions

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 17, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech 7901-1 review helpful

    Pros: Everything

    Cons: None

You guys need to read instructions. You should run it for a good while in water only to prevent that from happening and store it on that setting also.

Sprayer Problems with Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 26, 2005 | 4 out of 4 found this Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech 7901-1 review helpful

    Pros: Overall very good machine

    Cons: Sprayer gets clogged

I want to thank the person who wrote the review regarding the problem with the sprayer. I had the same problem and thanks to him I was able to fix it myself. I probably would have had to take it to a serviceman to have it fixed if I hadn't seen his review and how to check the hoses and remove the blockage. Once I did that, it worked beautifully.

    Good cleaner - poor sprayer

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 19, 2004 | 20 out of 20 found this Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech 7901-1 review helpful

Pros: Does a nice cleaning job

    Cons: Prone to sprayer blockage

The main problem I experienced was, as several of these reviews mentioned, the unit failed to spray solution on the carpet after using it only once.

Being mechanically inclined, I decided to investigate myself. I checked three areas of the unit:

Base - I removed the base cover so I could see the lines and the pump. Everything looked ok, the lines had fluid in them but I could see that fluid was not moving through them when I pressed the spray lever on the handle. The small spray heads were not blocked.

Handle - Opened up the handle to check if the spray lever was somehow disconnected inside and wasn't really activating the pump. Everything there looked fine.

Center (where the heater is) - I found the real problem here and it may be the reason for many of the reviews that mentioned that "the spray stopped working". Inside the lower part of the handle, where the red "heating" light is, there's a small heater which the water lines pass through. Even though my unit was used only once, I could see through the clear lines that the outlet from this heater was blocked. I removed the line from the end of the heater unit and used a paper clip to clear away what looked like a lump of minerals blocking the output. Once it was cleared, the unit started spraying again like brand new.

The bottom line, I think, is that, if you have hard water in your area, when that water goes through the heater, it causes some of the minerals to come out of solution, block the heater output and prevent it from reaching the spray heads.

The fix is simple enough and, since I was just about to head to the repair center, I know I saved a few bucks.

    zI bought one at walmart

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 17, 2004 | 1 out of 2 found this Bissell ProHeat Pro-Tech 7901-1 review helpful

Pros: cleans good the first time you use it

Cons: The second time you use it i've had 3 i exchanged them twice & am stuck with the 3rd one unless i can get it fixed the water & soap will not dispense after the first use I cleaned 1,200 sq ft of carpet then 6 months later went to clean again & the water & soap will not dispense the red float does not spin. I took two back for the same thing & its not fair to walmart to keep exchanging at their expense the third one did the same thing I used bissel products only the 3rd time not generics. I would like it fixed the motor runs but water will not dispense.

It would be a great product if they can work the bugs out of it. The second time you go to use it the water & soap won't dispense & i've had 3. I kept exchanging it. I tried only using bissel products & it still did not help the red spinning float thing won't spin water does not dispense, the motor & everything still work. Usually you only clean carpets 3-4 times a year if that. So its several months before you go to use it again by then you have lost the receipts You expect it will work the next time. The only proof of purchase is a credit or debit card bill. I want mine fixed properly. Its not fair to the stores to keep exchanging. So i give up.
