Pros: Love
Cons: flawless
This album is very good. I really don't know why most people hate it, their music is a work of art. And I know music pretty well. This is definitely a five star album.
This is a great album. As the subject implies, I only like YIELD and TEN better.
The songs on this are great, and it is listenable from start to finish. The songs don't have such "hooks" in them as other albums, and the songs have a bit of a jamming, trippy feel to them. With the songs being as strong as they are, this causes the songs to feel unfamiliar at first and not quite as instantly likeable; but with more listens, the album grows on you and you find more things to like about it as you hear it more.
This is a great drinking album. The album just screams for you to smoke a big stogie and drink a forty of Budweiser while listening to "Thin Air."
The bad....the production is pretty horrible. The production is very muddy and the tones aren't "warm" like in earlier releases. I know that PJ intended the album to sound the way it does, but I don't know why anyone would intentionally make it sound this bad. Remember how your tape player sounded when the head became dirty from use? That's how Binaural sounds.
Still, this is a great Pearl Jam album. If you like PJ's classic rock sound, you'll love it. Just don't expect to love it the first time you hear it.
My PJ album rankings:
1) YIELD
2) Ten
3) Binaural
4) Vs.
5) Vitalogy
6) No Code
7) Riot Act (this piece of
Pearl jam died after their album 'Ten'!!! This is terrible crap and noone in their right mind would buy such a ridiculous CD.
Pearl Jam Blows. All their songs sucks and they're boring. Jeremy is the only good song from their first album. The rest is just filler.
...the makers of great, new, self-explanitory music. They change to please themselves and not the industry. This is their 6th album - could you imagine SIX ALBUMS THAT ALL SOUND LIKE TEN?!!! I continually aplaude them for being the boldest, and coolest band in the world. This album is bluesy, groovin', changing, and heartfelt work. The people who think Pearl Jam just stopped trying - THEY DON'T HAVE TO. Their record sales indicate that. With all the criticism they recieve - they are the only band I know that averages..AVERAGES 5 and 1/2 million sales per album. So none of their album have sold 13 million and counting like "Ten". How many bands can say FOUR of their albums even tie that?!?! HOW MANY? They are the best, and the people who saw the brilliance in "Vitalogy", the harmony of "No Code", the balls and perfect tone of "Yield"...and the genius behind this album will still be the ones into this band all the way down the road. This is a great album.
FAVORITE TRACK? - "Light Years" best song of that year.
I think that this band has come full circle. I was impressed with how thier album had many different tones throughout, but didn't stray too much, as they had done on some previous albums. Any Pearl Jam fan should have this one.
evry song is the same.evry song.
I think it is pretty safe to say that grunge (a genre that should have never been) is no officially dead. All you grunge peoples out there, it is time to move on yo...
Move over Kurt, Eddie kicks your arse!
The album only went gold. I was kinda expecting that they'd make an album that went in the route that at least Yield went. I don't know I think that went like double platinum I think. But that was an awesome album. This was not that good of an album. 2 singles??? Come Pearl Jam. What about Insignificance, Grievance, and Thin Air. Instead of releasing Nothing As It seems I would rather be listening to one of those songs on the radio. Light years is a brilliant song. But overall besides the songs I mentioned the album kind of lacks creativity. They sound too bland. I really hope Pearl Jam will improve their next effort. Their rock/grunge isn't the same with this album. It kind of reminds me on No Code only not as good. I hope they make an album as brilliant as Vs., Vitalogy, and Yield. And hopefully release more and better singles. But I will always be a fan of them no matter what.
Where is that great Pearl Jam atmosphere ? Only "Thin air" is typical pearl jam song...
Other just average...
the eddie veder is sing like neil young. is no good this one hear album. i likes them go away
Get out your headphones and enjoy. I believe this album is one of PJ's best work since Vitalogy. The sound once again unique. Many critics and non-PJ fans can't place PJ anywhere, but I'll place as one the great ROCK bands out there. Who the
Pj has done it again . Every song on this album is good . I especially like Evacuation , Thin Air , Grievance , Insignificance and Rivals . They must really be amazing in concert . Good Job Ed!
At least on "No Code" and "Yield" there was ONE song I liked...sad to see what was once such a great band deteriorate into one of the worst. At least I can laugh at Fred Durst and say "Haha, you're a loser and pretty soon people will get smart enough to realize that you are." But not Pearl Jam. PJ fans are to the point where they'll buy anything they put out, no matter how
pearl Jam is (in my mind) the greatest rock band around today. They may not be the powerhouse they once were but there's a reason for that. Sure they could stop by the MTV studios once in a while and promote themselves and chat with Carson or they could do video's that make their album sales soar. It's just not their style. I think that is totally cool. They do this because they enjoy it. Not to be painted on every street corner. They're the working man's band. Nothing but the best from them!
Pearl Jam definitely seems to be at their most mature state in this album, and as a result they are able to write great songs. It is unfortunate that it did not sell more records, because this is one of their best. This is a must have album for all Pearl Jam fans.
I'm not a big fan of Pearl Jam,so I can review this from an un-biased side.I'd pretty much forgot about PJ,but this release reminded me.I was once of fan of "TEN",and this is their best since then.
I've listened to all of their albums, and I think they're moving in the right direction.Away from "TEN" and "VS",but not too out there. And this album is great, just good old Rock "n" Roll.
5 out of 5,and 8.5 out of 10.
diversity, musical talent and creativity, superb, clever songwriting, it rocks, it sooths- this album has it all!
they're going down and down with every record
eddie and stone show they can pull out the stops to keep their music going for generations. they're the grateful dead of the new millineum.
Like No Code, takes a while to get into. But it really does grow on you. Yes, still haven't heard a PJ song I didn't like.
What could be a worse punishment than sitting through this whole album. This noise is a bunch of ugly miserable sludge.
Oh man. This is such a good. Matt Cameron (former SoundGarden drummer) is a good addition to the band since his jazzlike syncopation mixes well with Stone and Jeff's rumbling riff backed against Ed's thoughtful lyrics. The guys took a more spiritual and uplifting turned and the sound of the whole album is conceptual and stimulating, like getting an intelectual intercourse. Sadly, Ed sounds like he is losing his voice. Perhaps all that smoking did him bad after all. Still this album should appease a lot of rock fans. Memorable tracks - Breakerfall, God's dice, light years, nothing as it seems, in thin air.
bloody good iv like peal jam since they came out i sadly went off them but this great album and ligt years single brougt them back 2 life.
The first seven songs score big time on this album which is better than any other record of theirs, although Vitalogy was 'creme de le creme as well.
But the couple songs that don't sound good at all bring the record down enough to keep it at a 4****.
I recommend it anyway.
of course, PJ just rules!
As a die hard Pearl Jam fan, I rate this album as average. The reason, it just lacks emotion and passion. The lyrics seem to be devoid of thought. Imagin reading a 7th grade paper written by a student who forgot his english paper was due, and wrote the paper during algebra class the period before the paper was due. I like songs from Pearl Jam in which Eddie lets out emotional cries as if his soul is on fire and the only way to extinguish the flame is to realse his thoughts in song. This album has none of that.
