Pro Reviews: Best of Tito Rodriguez & His Orchestra, Vol. 1

  • All Music Guide

"Me lo Dijo Adela" comes from 1955's Mambos album. The rest of Best Of must be similar highfidelity but prestereo recordings, from 195057. Curiously, there is nothing here from Three Loves Have I, although the two have much in common. The sound is superb and cohesion high for a compilation. While the material is not his absolute best, it is very authentic and progressive for Latindanceband music of the time. "Los Marcianos" must have inspired Al Castellanos' "Martian Cha Cha Cha" on Mardi Gras.
