    Ultimate Prince?

    By darkhart  Oct 8, 2006

    Pros: Some good Songs

    Cons: cost too much

Ultimate Prince? Lets start by saying I grew up in the MTV 1980 era so nostalgia took part in this purchase. First the songs: Disc 1 1. I Wanna Be Your Lover 2. Uptown 3. Controversy 4. 1999 5. Delirious 6. When Doves Cry 7. I Would Die 4 U 8. Purp...le Rain 9. Sign "O" the times 10. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man 11. Alaphabet ST. 12. Diamonds and Pearls 13. Gett Off 14. Money Don't Matter 2 Night 15. 7 16. Nothing Compares 2 U 17. My Name Is Prince Not a bad mix but as you can see some songs u expect for and ultimate prince missing. Most Notably the Most Beautiful Girl in the World. Stands out to me. I am sure there are others but to me that am a definite missing song I am not sure I consider my name is prince on of his greatest hits. Now for the Worst part of this set Disc 2: The songs: 1. Let's Go Crazy (Special Dance Mix) 2. Little Red Corvette (Dance Remix) 3. Let's Work (Dance Remix) 4. Pop Life (Fresh Dance Mix) 5. She's Always In My Hair (12" Version) 6. Rasberry Beret (12" Version) 7. Kiss (Extended Version) 8. U Got the Look (Long Look) 9. Hot Thing (Extended Remix) 10. Thieves in the Temple (Remix) 11. Cream (N.P.G. Mix) The only thing worse than remix's are live on an ultimate disc. This would better be severed as a Prince remix single release and give us the songs we know and love. This set is all in all a very big disappointment the remix's aren't that great cream is the worst of them sound utterly ridiculous. They could have at least had both versions on the set to show the difference and honor its title This set is not worth more than 10 bucks and even then it's a rip off it is no means the Ultimate Prince getting his previous 2 greatest hits discs are much better than this set. If they take and opened CD back I return it. It is that bad. Read more Less

The third Prince compilation includes a second disc devoted to 12" mixes and extended dance mixes issued on CD maxisingles. There is certainly a market for these mixes they have not been compiled on CD, so hardcore fans have been awaiting their reissue, not just for the sake of completism, but because the mixes were often very good. Included here are "Let's Go Crazy," "Little Red Corvette," "Pop Life," "Raspberry Beret," "Kiss," "U Got the Look," "Thieves in the Temple," and "Cream" all in different mixes. As for the first disc, most of the 17 songs here are single edits, but there are a few exceptions to the rule, as "Controversy," "Purple Rain," "Alphabet St," "7," and "Gett Off" are all presented in their original fulllength album incarnations and even if "Controversy" and "Purple Rain" benefit from the unedited treatment (which is not necessarily the case with "Alphabet St.," which is one time Prince's song got better on a single edit), it's hard to see why those were included un...cut when "1999" and "When Doves Cry" fade out rather abruptly. The remastered sound is very good, however, better than the original CDs in nearly every case. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide Read more Less
