Best of Bowie

Ahhh..All my favorite Bowie in a simple 2 CD Set. This set has found a permanent home in my CD Changer. Early Bowie mixed with Late Bowie: Fashion meets I'm afraid of Americans. Some of my favs of the set; Changes, Under Pressure, Fame, Fashion, Golden Years, Rebel Rebel, Young Americans, Let's Dance, China Girl, Modern love and too many to list. Song after song, memory after memory from year after year...this album was worth every penny.

Bowie seems to come out with a new compilation in some form or another every five years or so, 16 international versions of this one alone! It's true that this "Best Of" collection is probably the most comprehensive set released in that it has at least one release from his major albums from his various labels (and there's a lot of them). It starts with his first single of the classic "Space Oddity" and runs through the 2002's "Slow Burn" from Heathen (shame on all of you who haven't picked it up yet). It also includes the only good single from Tin Machine, "Under The God". Unfortunetely, the track listings don't tell you some important details, such as the tracks following "Diamond Dogs" are generally the single versions, which works for "Cat People" but hurts "Let's Dance" with Stevie Ray Vaughn's amazing guitar work chopped off. (Why they didn't do the single version for "Diamond Dogs" is a mystery.) Also, how the very mediocre "Time Will Crawl" made it on here baffles me, hardly worthy to be on a "Best Of" disc. Happily, there is the Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails version of "I'm Afraid Of Americans". It would have been helpful to have these notes on the contents list on the CD cover.
And yes, there is the single CD collection of this Best Of Bowie collection. But why anyone would want to purchase such a tiny selection with the plethora of great material that Bowie has put out would be nuts. If you have to have a Bowie collection, this 2 CD set is definetely the one to get.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoDavid Bowies new compilation is fantast
David Bowie is one of the most prolithic songwriters of my generation. His music, for the most part is timeless and meaningful. I was very moved by his newest disc, Heathen, his best writing in years, and now this, a remastered compilation! It doesn't get any better than this!!!

I PLACED THE DISC IN, AND IT HASN'T COME OUT SINCE. IT WAS TRULY A SENSATIONAL EXPERIANCE.
