Bowie seems to come out with a new compilation in some form or another every five years or so, 16 international versions of this one alone! It's true that this "Best Of" collection is probably the most comprehensive set released in that it has at lea...st one release from his major albums from his various labels (and there's a lot of them). It starts with his first single of the classic "Space Oddity" and runs through the 2002's "Slow Burn" from Heathen (shame on all of you who haven't picked it up yet). It also includes the only good single from Tin Machine, "Under The God". Unfortunetely, the track listings don't tell you some important details, such as the tracks following "Diamond Dogs" are generally the single versions, which works for "Cat People" but hurts "Let's Dance" with Stevie Ray Vaughn's amazing guitar work chopped off. (Why they didn't do the single version for "Diamond Dogs" is a mystery.) Also, how the very mediocre "Time Will Crawl" made it on here baffles me, hardly worthy to be on a "Best Of" disc. Happily, there is the Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails version of "I'm Afraid Of Americans". It would have been helpful to have these notes on the contents list on the CD cover.And yes, there is the single CD collection of this Best Of Bowie collection. But why anyone would want to purchase such a tiny selection with the plethora of great material that Bowie has put out would be nuts. If you have to have a Bowie collection, this 2 CD set is definetely the one to get. Read more Less
