great movie
Pros: this movie had great music and background effects
Cons: you can get lost easy but the whole point to whatching a movie is to keep focused.
I think this movie was great. Yes, it combined a lot of great gangs movies in the best, but because of all the great ideas put together the better something becomes. This has everything symbolism, emotions, real life dreams and real street dreams.

This movie is all good. To all of you haters go kiss ya mum behinds. I liked when NAS found out Africa is just another place on Earth, and when DMX change his ways to the good. The soundtrack is all that no doubt.

yeah the acting isn't all that.. the one who really shines is DMX... Nas was all right.. but hicks and t-boz, was straight up wack.. there acting was really bad.. the plot was straight.. and the visuals was off the hook.. it was a good first time movie.. all and all it was a good movie to watch.. if they were to put better female actors.. then I would of gave the movie a 5..
Was this review helpful? Yes - Nothis movie is the tytest thug movie to come for days. Nas and DMX act like pros -- and the soundtrack is bumpin. From the very first scene in the club all the way to the end you get hooked. This is what movies are all about -- so any of you haters that don't like it can suk dick.

I did not enjoy this movie for it's gangsta aspect, I enjoyrd it for its hidden mesage. DMX was perfect for the part and nas was a bonus. When DMX decides to change his ways realizing he is only killing his soul. Behind the Hard image of this movie there was a message.Not a typical gangsta movie but a true masterpiece in itself

Ooooh, where do I start? This movie tries to be every successful gangster movie in one. 1.When DMX gets the guns in the club's bathroom in the opening scene(remember Michael Corleones first killing in the Godfather),2.A fearless Jamaican drugdealer(remember Tony Montana)which acts out the whole ending of Scarface in the middle of the movie, and 3.The relationship with Nas and DMX's characters(remember the bond between Caine & O-Dog in Menace II Society). How unimaginative!!!
The editing is sloppy, so you can get lost easy. There is no character development what so ever. The characters kill,kill,kill, but never know why they became to be this way. Also, characters change their ways in a matter of second which kill a movie altogether. Watch the other films I mentioned above, cause that is what this movie tries to be, but fails miserably. This was an excellent first time movie for actors as well as director. I was particularly impressed with DMX's performance he grabbed your attention and held it throughout this film. He to me is an OG O-dog (from Manace to Society) whom by the end of the story understands he is only killing his soul. I would have liked for them to feature Taral Hicks alot more she has to be the most beautiful chocolate sista to I have ever seen. I was digging her innocence in A Bronx Tale and then she totally flipped the script with her portrayal as Keish i Belly, she deserves credit and anything she does I will continue to support and be a fan of. I would love to meet her for all you brothas out there can't you just see her walking up the Ave right now with those long baby oiled glistening legs. Belly is real check it out.

There is too many things happening in this movie(too much plot), it is very easy to get lost if you're not paying attention. There is, I think, some of the worst acting ever I have seen in any movie, mostly coming from Nas. Knowing that the film is dealing with first-time director and actors, I'll cut em some slack. Besides that, it's a very etertaining movie(very,very harsh I might add). It has some very, very impressive visuals. It also has the best opening scene I have ever seen in any flick(also Blade, but that's another review). This movie is not for everyone, worth checking out though.

Another hip-hop urban gangster film. Haven't we seen enough of these? This movie plays like a rap version of "Scarface". The difference in this movie is the visuals. A little amateurish but still impressive visually. DMX gives an astonishing debut(the next Tupac maybe?)whereas Nas is a complete letdown. I also think there should have been more character development with the females in this movie. In the end, nothing new has happened in this movie but it's still decent Friday night video entertainment.

Belly has replaced Heat & Scarface as one my favorite "gang" movies.
Visually, you can't touch it. The various sets, lighting, costumes, and design are stylistically the best I've seen. The opening sequences (once music starts) is the best in any movie.
The story is entertaining; it knows what we, as viewers, want from this movie and delivers. No, it's not a literary masterpiece; but it thoroughly entertains.
Musically, does a better than average job. Great soundtrack, spliced into movie perfectly, better use of music than most movies.
But it's the actors that bring it all home. DMX plays (himself) perfectly; he's crazy. Nas does a good job of (probably) playing himself. The Jamiacan druglord (forget his name right now) is AWESOME! "Don't bring scare bidness into my house". The assassin. Mmmmm.... good stuff.
If you like gangster movies, and good filmmaking (like Heat, Casino, GoodFellas, Scarface), you deserve to watch this gem.Was this review helpful? Yes - Nobest movie ever!

I really did enjoy the movie. It was like most of the African American drug movies but the story line was ok. I think it would have been much better with better actors. Nas was bad. Him and T-Boz need to stick to the music business. There was one or two sceens that could have been taken out like the one with Nas and the little boy outside of the projects. But I must say again please make the rappers and singers take acting lessions. DMX and his girlfriend in the movie were great. <EOM>

Hype Williams does an amazing job with his use of color and settings in "Belly." He captures the mood and feeling by using large amounts of one color in a scene. The story was pretty original, and DMX,and Nas are good actors. The movie also takes its focus away from the white America by not showing one white talking face throughout the whole movie. Double thumbs up to Hype on this one.

Nas could use some acting lessons, but DMX ws raw talent in the making. The jamaican actor was raw too. Taral Hicks played a good supporting roll as well as Method Man, and T-Boz. Method Man should look into making more films, he's a natural. Hype Williams you should also look into making a another movie featuring black artists about black artist....HMMMMMM food for thought
