    Good price and good value

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 21, 2009

Pros: easy set up/ 4 extra ports

    Cons: None yet

I read some negative reviews so I was leary when I first bought it. It took me two tries to download the Belkin and hook up to the internet. The final solution when it would not hook up to the net was to unplug the modem for 10 seconds (the power cord and then replug it back in) and I was online. I have a small home and so far the wirless connection has been fine. I also have other computers and they are wired so easy to use the other 4 orts. For the cost I am happy with my Belkin.

    By Peanut  Aug 17, 2008

    Pros: You have internet

    Cons: disconnects all the time

I have bought this wireless router and it was fine for a while but it is always disconnecting me when the phone rings or just whenever it feels. At first I didnt have any problems but it has been about three months of nothing but issues.

    Works great now

By Pete  Dec 21, 2007 | 0 out of 1 found this Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4 review helpful

    Pros: Reliable connection, good range

Cons: Had trouble initialy setting up.

I had trouble setting it up at first. Called tech support and got a guy in Timbuktu some were. And we had to set up a cloned MAC address, after that it connected. I had some problems maintaining connection after that. It would drop connection once or twice a day then reconnect after about 10 or 20 seconds. I then downloaded the latest firmware, 9.01.10 and it's held connection for over two weeks. Although it may be inconvenient that firmware must be updated. It will fix many of the issues noted here. It's easy. You can download wireless.

    Awful waste of money

    By StefanieN  Nov 30, 2007

    Pros: Easy to set up

    Cons: Didn't work correctly

My husband and I decided to invest in a couple of laptops since we are both full time students and we were tired of fighting over the desktop. The laptop shopping itself was time consuming, and on our way out we realized we needed a wireless router. As I was reading the boxes, hubby rushed me to pick something as he was late for a meeting, so I grabbed this one (incidentally the cheapest one...you get what you pay for). It has NEVER worked correctly. Since the day we got it, it has constantly disconnected, rarely staying connected for as little as five minutes--we've had it two weeks. Today we went to Best Buy where someone suggested we just try to get a new cable since often times routers come with bad ones. We tried that full of hope that our problem would be solved--nope. We returned shortly after to purchase a Linksys. For the first time since owning my laptop, I have been connected for 3 HOURS. That should tell you how badly my Belkin worked--I'm excited over 3 HOURS of internet connection.

    By Mochamami  Sep 15, 2007

Pros: Very easy to set up

    Cons: Requires CD Rom

I like this router simply because it does what I want it to do. A router in my book does not have to be fancy or expensive to allow for a great high speed connection. I paid maybe 40 bucks for it and it works wonderfully. I had to call the 1-800 number to set it up b/c the main pc that we use for the cable connection does not have a cd-rom. The tech guy was very helpful and I was set up in minutes.

    Problems, Problems, Problems

    By Beth  Feb 21, 2007

    Pros: Good till now

Cons: Shuts down all the time, signal strength

I've had the router for almost a year. It has worked fine up until the last few weeks. Now it just keeps shutting down. When I take it off the wall it is so hot it might as well be on fire. The signal strength is all over the place. One minute it says low, the next it says excellent. It drops signal all the time. I am to the point that I pull the plug on it everytime I am not using the internet. Needless to say I am shopping for a new one, but not a Belkin.

    Pros: Ease of Set-Up

Cons: Lost connection when using Network Magic

It works fine on my laptop with the built-in Windows adapter. It also works well with a Belkin desktop adapter card in a room on another floor - ( 2 story house ). I had Network Magic installed on 3 PCs and the router and/or modem would drop connection. After removing NetworkMagic, It is working great.

    Wireless? Or not?

    By LALA  Jan 27, 2007

Pros: Close to none. It is durable. I know this from throwing it on the ground.

Cons: Drops Connections constantly. Easily over-whelmed with connections. Constantly needs restarts.

This is one of the worst routers I have ever dealt with.

It drops connections constantly, after which point you can only reconnect after unplugging and replugging in the router. A simple restart won't do.

If you game, you will hate it. It blocks ports that you cannot unblock even after shutting off the Firewall capabilities and adding those ports to the Virtual Server list. Also, it will only allow so many connections at one time. Wirelessly, it will allow about 2. Wired 4.

It also needs to restart every couple days to regroup and work things out with itself, because apparently it was abused as a child.

I do have one positive thing to say about the piece of junk though. It is durable. I have kicked it. Stepped on it. Pounded it on the desk. Thrown it across the room, and through all that, it worked. Kinda.

It did finally retire though. I had to accidentally drop it about 50 times.

    Constantly drops signal

    By Christina  Jan 6, 2007

    Pros: Cheap

    Cons: doesnt maintain connection

I am constantly having to reset the router sometimes every two weeks, two hours or two minutes. There are days when I have to unplug, wait, replug at least ten times.

Very inconsistent performance, but it's one of the few at the time I purchased it that showed support for both pc and mac systems as I work from home (pc work computer and home mac).

    Worth for the $9 paid

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 5, 2006

Pros: most of the features work..

Cons: frequent line drops, firmware doesn't update, can't do remote access to the network

It was worth for the $9 paid two yrs ago.. But wouldn't recommend it.. There are a lot of other good models out there.. Not worth even if its given free now.

    Drops Off Line

    By Bruce  Nov 6, 2006

    Pros: Easy to Set Up

    Cons: Won't Stay Connected

Worked ok for a while, but then started dropping off line as much as every 10 minutes. If you would cycle the power it would come back on line for a while. Contacted Belkin tech support and they said to reset, didnt help. Would not recommend this router

    good for internet browsing only

    By denis  Oct 27, 2006

    Pros: cheap

Cons: you get what u pay for

    Problems :
    - Internet connection drops or you need to reload webpages every now and then
    - unable to download files larger than 500KB's ; Belkin tech support advises me that this type of router would not be able to handle big volumes of download; they have suggested to upgrade to their Nimo model for me to be able to download larger files !

summary : if you just need to share your internet access with other PC at home using wireless connectivity , this router will probably suit your need.
Else if you need to download big files (movies, songs etc..) forget it..

    Belkin F5D7230-4

    By bigwater  Oct 9, 2006

Pros: Cheap and worth it, too.

    Cons: Crashes constantly. Difficult setup.

My unit crashes frequently. It also slows down. My downloads need to re restarted after i head to the other room to reset the unit. The Web is filled with others who have the same problems. It seems that the power suply in the unit overheats and crashes the unit.

Routers are supposed to sit quietly and ?WORK. This unit is a constant nuisance.

In the setup, I entered several WEP encryption strings before one took hold. Why do you have to set things up by brute force? Why can't they just work?

Buy something else, please! Does Belkin use their own stuff?

    Drops Signals

    By Andy  Oct 6, 2006

    Pros: Cheap-$29

    Cons: Drops signal constantly

I've been very frustrated with this router...I talk online with my wife for long periods of time while on trips and her connection is always being dropped because of the router. I've tried different channels and upgraded the Firmware to 6.00.28 from 6.00.1 and I'm still having trouble...spend some more money and get a better router, but not from Belkin.

    Belkin Wireless G review

By fred  Aug 1, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4 review helpful

Pros: Easy to install, good range

    Cons: Unreliable

I had no trouble installing it and porting the settings from my older router from another brand. The range is good and it worked well for the first few months. Now I get disconnected at least once per day and must constantly power cycle it to get reconnected.

    Empty Claims

By DHIA  Nov 12, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4 review helpful

    Pros: None

    Cons: Many

This my personal experience only: bought this or one like it with a promise of a rebate. The rebate never came through. Currently after about 7 months of use the last 3 months have been full of disconnections on the network level and internet level, incorrect timing of scheduling functions, and it is user interface mediocre. I am in the process of buying a new router now. I don't even want this one replaced by Belkin (anyway who knows it may or may not be covered by their claimed warranty). ...

    Belkin, a name?

By Ron  May 4, 2005 | 5 out of 5 found this Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4 review helpful

Pros: Easy setup, reliable, and it works

Cons: only repeats/bridges with other belkin products

The con won't stop me from buying Belkin again. The router fired right up, and had my wife on wireless in an hour. Our house is 4 stories here and with the router on the 3rd floor, the signal does good to get down to the bottom floor, but sometimes looses connection. The townhouse next to us is also on my wireless network, and his signal is sharp as well. The features in the firewalls and also with the MAC address filtering, as well as the server functions make this a rich, manageable, device that is a great starter to a full function wireless and wired network. File sharing is a problem, but maybe not the router's problem. You must purchase a belkin WAP or router to use as a bridge, as it only works with belkin products.
