Pros: well written, directed, and played

Cons: the suspense is killing me

Everything is right on this new version of Battlestar Galactica. From writing to directing to acting to set design, it is all belivable. On set design: Like others point out, you belive that people actualy live there. Not just because theres a little... dirt, but because the walls show signs of life. There are dents in the rails where some one might have droped something heavy. There is rust on panels. The paint is starting to crack and peel off in places because they haven't had time to re-decorate the walls. Lables on buttons are worn off from use. Theres bathrooms. (Thats the real indicator right there) On acting: The charicters show signs of strain from being on the run for so long. The people make mistakes. They argue while forgetting that others are around because they are so pissed. They butt heads for athuority. They show emotion in situations. They deal with problems they don't think they can handle. They sacrifice for the good of all above themselves. After watching this show you will belive that you could walk up to any one of the charicters in person. My main problem with this show is that they are not making them fast enough. It's like reading a book that takes you in fully while it's being written. You cant turn the page untill next week when more is done. Excelant job to all those involved in this show. I can hardly contain myself waiting for next season now. Oh yeah, and 'Apollo' (Jamie Bamber) sounds kinda odd with out an American accent. One of those things you find out by watching the behind the scenes stuff on the disks. Read more Less

    Battlestar Galactica - Season 1

By Graydon  Sep 15, 2005 | 4 out of 4 found this Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 (2004) review helpful

Pros: multi-threaded story lines; characters are human in nature

Cons: Needs more exposure, discovered by accident

excellent sci-fi series, great liberties taken with orginal characters. One still doesn't know who the bad guys are yet.

    Shockingly Good

By McPele  Sep 7, 2005 | 2 out of 2 found this Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 (2004) review helpful

Pros: It is totally real and sucks you in

    Cons: Not enough of them

I thought I loved the original series until I saw this. I thought Star Trek: Next Gen and DS9 were well done, until I saw this. The new Battlestar Galactica is so good, it makes all the other sci-fi look childish. "So why is it good, Mr. Robocop...ywriter?" Because it seems real. It is shot in documentary style and written in a cutting-edge dramatic tone. The combination breaks the wall of implausibility around other sci-fi. In addition, it's dirty. Other sci-fi show are impeccably clean and shiny, this is 180° different. Throw in great stories, many influenced or taken from the original series, and you sit in awe every Friday night at 10pm. Could it be better? Sure, more rooms full of naked Boomers, like in the last episode of the first season. Read more Less

    Better than the original

    By Elric  Jun 5, 2006

Pros: Very dark and anti-Star Trek

Cons: Star Buck is a girl

I was very leary of the new series but I was hooked right from the mini series. This isnt Start Trek. It's dark and sad right from the beginning. The show is all about hope but isnt full of PC crap. My biggest complaint is that they made Starbuck... a girl. I have nothing against the character. They should have made the character under a different name. She is cool though. Im just a traditionalist. I highly recommend the show. Read more Less
