    Battle of Los Angeles

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 5, 2003 | 1 out of 2 found this Battle of Los Angeles review helpful

Fake intellectualism poised by a band who counts on their fans to not read the literature they promote, because anyone with half a brain would realize the inherent contradictions between the books. Im as much for intellectual leftism as anyone else, ...but this is the wrong way to do it. The one thing I will say for them is Tom Morellos skill in innovative guitar is interesting to listen to, once or twice. Not worth spending your money if youre looking for intelligent music. Any band that speaks out against multi-national corporations while they are employed by one should not be given points for sincerity. Think People! Read more Less

A Refreshing Venture Into The Truth

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 24, 2006

Pros: Amazing and well written vocals, insanely creative guitar score

Cons: Reliance on bass to carry through main sound in certain choruses

The Battle of LA is certainly a unique and rare album. Throughout the entirety of it, the listener feels constantly in sway with the rythym of every song, and soon will find themself chanting the vocals. Zack de la Rocha is one of the most talented ...singers/song writers in the face of rock. His performance in The Battle is his best yet, with none of the past albums' emphasis on accent, and is much clearer when singing. Many people may try to compare RATM to bands such as Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and the like; but none of the other bands that RATM has been accused of ripping of have yet shown any qualities like them. With this album, they break down the barrier between rythym, style, and guitar. This album has some of the most amazing "wow" pedal emphasis i've ever seen, and it flows perfectly with the elements of every song. The lyrics within the tracks are simply and purely amazing. Perfect rhyming is blended with raw emotion, intensity, and the fact that everything said is fact. Listeners are quickly bombarded with flowing rhymes flushing out the horrors of slavery, facism, and propaganda. What I could say that the album needed was, as said in the "Cons", less emphasis on bass. The guitar of "New Millenium Homes" and "War Within A Breath" is mainly comprised of bass guitar, and the chorus IS the bass line, but done with electric guitar instead. Another thing that the customer needs to be wary about is the fact that this type of music isn't exactly appealing to the masses and will most likely need to be listened to more than once. But after the listener has heard the album two times they begin to see the depth and soul of the songs. All in all, I would recommend this album to anyone who'd listen. It's got style, grace, power, and feeling. If you can fine it at even a slightly reasonable price, jump at the chance and discover the truth today! Read more Less

    Forget Linkin Park?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 14, 2001

What? don't get me wrong, Rage is my Favorite band of all time, listening to them got me into liking music period. But comparing Linkin Park to Rage isn't fair. Rage is out there sending a message through music while Linkin park are writing songs. Ca...n't compare, political music like rage is supposed to have plot. Linkin Park and Rage are bands of a different class, sure both "flow" on their albums but each has their own style. Comparing them is unfair, favorite track on this album Guerilla Radio, love it, than and New Millenium Homes. Read more Less

Forget Linkin Park, listen to this.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 12, 2001

The Battle of los angeles is the best cd i've seen in years, it has better loud guitars, and better rapping than any rap/rock band combined, unlike linkin park which has no use of a plot, this cd manages to work it's way out, Sorry chester pennington..., this cd rocks. Read more Less

    yep its rage

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 25, 2001

I have been a rage fan since they released thier first album back in 92. That was one of the greatest debut albums ever, especially considering grunge was the trend. I waited 4 years for thier second album, which was good, it had a fresh sound to it ...but was no first album. Four years later zach, tom and the boys release thier 3rd album and im not going to lie here, its BORRRRING. Every song follows the same old formula, "sleep now in the fire" is the only reason i put this cd in my player. It sounds too much like Evil Empire, i think rage ran out of ideas. Hopefull Chris Cornell will make good of them. Read more Less
