In addition to the combat one would expect from any adventure featuring the grim hero, gameplay involves exploration and stealth. Batman's famous utility belt comes into play, as different gadgets allow him to reach remote areas, survey situations from a safe location, and unleash surprise attacks. The film spotlights its heavyduty interpretation of the Batmoblie, as well, and the highly versatile vehicle is featured in the game's combat racing sequences.

Game characters are designed to look like their silverscreen counterparts and are voiced by the actors featured in the film, including Christian Bale as the dark hero, Liam Neeson as mentor Henri Ducard, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and Cillian Murphy as Dr. Jonathan Crane.
