Synopsis: Bastard Out of Carolina (1996)
Synopis: In post-WWII South Carolina, a young woman named Anney gives birth to an illegitimate child, nicknamed Bone. A few years later, Anney marries the seemingly decent Glen, who does not get along with Bone. Annie's miscarriage of a boy enrages her husband, who, behind his wife's back, begins to physically abuse Bone on a regular basis. After Anney discovers what her husband has been doing, she leaves Glen. But her need for a man's love eventually compels her to return to Glen, setting the stage for a heinous incident between Glen and his stepdaughter. As a result, a rift forms between mother and daughter -- that may never be healed. A made-for-cable adaptation of Dorothy Allison's best-selling novel. Anjelica Huston makes her directorial debut.Features: Bastard Out of Carolina (1996)

EXTREMLEY DISTURBING!!!
, March 2, 2002Reviewer: i_no_entertainment_betta_than_u - See all i_no_entertainment_betta_than_u's reviewsMUST-OWN MOVIE THAT EVERYONE SHOULD SEE!!!

Pros: The acting is outstanding
Cons: Disturbing Story but very honest
Although the topic of physical and sexual abuse is sickening, it does happen. This story opens your eyes to the horrible choices people make and how being dirt poor can can affect those choices. It is hard to call this "entertaining" since you will be sickened by the abuse suffered - but it is a story I will always remember. It is a must see, especially for any parent. It is real and honest and so very well acted! If you are not touched somehow by this movie then there is something wrong with you.
