Synopsis: Barton Fink (1991)

    More Allusion than Plot

    Pros: Dark, Intellectual, Beautiful

    Cons: Very "art-house"

    This movie is fun on it's own, but I found the most enjoyable feature the need for interpretation. The main story is clear, if odd, but seeing the true story is fairly difficult, and requires repeated viewings. Luckily, the Coen greats are all wo...rth watching over and over, and as usual this one gets better the more times you see it. There are so many layers in this movie, and they are less obvious than in "Lebowski" or "Raising Arizona". Of course, the lighting is amazing, camerawork outstanding, fantastic cast and precise dialogue. This is a great movie for art lovers, but probably OK at best for anyone else. Note - In an episode of "The Simpsons", Bart and Milhouse are sneaking into an R-rated movie, chanting "Barton Fink, Barton Fink". That joke was SO much funnier once I actually saw this movie.
