Anchored by actors Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston, the series gives detailed attention to their experiences as a group, as well as the way that each of them develops individually. Based on historian Stephen E. Ambrose's book of real-life accounts, BAND OF BROTHERS was executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, who worked together on SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. Hanks also directed one episode, featuring his son, Colin Hanks.

    Shakespeare would be proud. It was his England these American farm boys came to protect. And they did. With honor, with venality, with courage, cowardice, modesty and self agrandizement. Most of all, they did it with blood. As war is violent in ...the extreme, so is it portrayed. War and all it's glory and stupidity gushes from the screen. The people who lived it, add to the narrative with their own stories. They are all old men now, yet still they cannot recall their 50-year old memories without choking back tears and horror. The story is incredible.The performances are stunning.The photography is exceptional.Even the title, from Henry V's speech before the battle at Harfleur is both apt and poignant."We few, we happy few, we band of brothers,For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accursed they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."     For the history buff or anyone who just loves a good story, Band of Brothers is the series to watch. And the amazing thing is, it's based on actual events. The series brings you closer to what the soldiers were actually going through at the tim...e. The characters are well developed and you feel as though you've known them forever. A powerful tale about a very important time in our history, told by the men who actually lived it. This would be a great film to share with a high school history class or those who just aren't aware of what the soldiers went through to bring us the freedom we value so much. Read more Less
