A band by any other name............
How could any music lover NOT call them "THE BAND"? I remember vividly the first time my ears had this music bestowed on them...1970...ridin' in a friend's '57 Chevy (all six of us), the fragrance of the burning buds...I was blown away, coming back down to earth in three second eternities... when the tape changed tracks...
"This" was MUSIC! Just music, no psychadelic images, no political message, no desparate attempt to grab my cash, this was MUSIC! Still is! In the thirty plus years since that magical day I have heard a lot of music, but none of it rises any higher than this self titled collection, modestly named "THE BAND".
The album is still as strong as it was then, and if it were released "new" today, would no doubt attract the same following of dedicated ears as in the previous millenium. These guys went in an uncharted direction, and ended up, as Clapton said, "where rock music was supposed to go". I can't add any more than that, except to say, be good to your ears, buy it!
