my roomates and i had just moved in to a rustic cabin in Colorado. We were all exhausted..but we had to haul in the collective "Album" collection. We hooked up the stereo, and just plopped an album on to see if everything was in working order. How the $#@!@^&*%#$ Kenny Rogers got into our hands(much less the First edition)is still a mystery. Our electricity went out except for the stereo..so we all settled in and listened to one of the most beautiful albums any of us had ever heard...as i recall it is a story,of a town, named Calico, and the town's characters. It was like watching a movie. The songs are from humorous, to ballad, but all very special. When we all moved, someone snagged the album.i have been searching many years.i would love to get a copy to all 5 of us.We all had,and still have a new respect for kenny Rogers, but it seems NO one else knows what i am talking about.please help me find this amazing piece of the very best thing Kenny Rogers ever wrote..that no one,but som ...

| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Years before Michael Murphey began singing songs about cowboys as a recording artist, he wrote the material on this album as a tribute to a ghost town in the Mojave Desert called New Vegas. Though not all of the songs work, the concept and packaging (including the enclosed booklet with notes and lyrics) make this one worth having. - Jim Worbois, All Music Guide |

Pros: A Gem of an album
Cons: 5 stars
This is one of the best Theme albums I have ever ecome across. haunting melodies and beautiful lyrics tell the story of a former Silver mining town in southern California which is now a "ghost town" of sorts, but a town where some folks manage to squeeze out a living by allowing visitors to experience the rich and compelling story of Calico. Kenny Rogers BEST and certainly most unique work, in my opinion.
