Pro Reviews: Balance of the Force

  • All Music Guide

Graham Sutton let his Boymerang aegis run rampant over the contemporary (at time of release, anyway) drum'n'bass map, presenting a cross-section of substyle genre pieces (a diva track, a few techsteppers, a dolphin tune, etc.) as his debut long player. The production is top-notch and a few of the tracks are dynamite, but the album suffers for its lack of focus, sounding like a badly organized compilation trying to please everyone and succeeding in pleasing no one. As with previous releases and remix work, however, Sutton shines with his techstep work, and the cachet of tracks utilizing choppy machine-bred breaks and gleaming basslines are the highlights here.
