    Pros: Different types mixed sensitively

    Cons: don't know

I started listening to the album when I knew only Funky for you. And at that time I found the mix from Silent treatment onto Funky for you very fulfilling since Hip/Hop emerges into this house beat. And of course I got curios and started listening to... the mix entrance to Cry About-Silent Treatment. Finally got to hearing and loving the whole album. It is an excellent music to explore if you haven't heard the songs before. Read more Less

    From the other side

    Pros: Awesome tracklist

Cons: Mixing is a little off

Clearly the other reviewers are from the EBTG fan club side of the house. This is cool, I was actually an EBTG fan far before I was into EDM (Electronic Dance Music). For those of your from the EDM side of things you will be completely familiar wit...h Back to Mine... For those of you not familiar here is a brief explaination. Back to Mine is a series where EDM "related" artists (ben is a big DJ, tracy has sung with Massiv Attack and a few other EDM / Trip Hop acts)pick their favorite "non dancefloor / chillout" tunes and put them together to expose fans to their taste in music. Now on to the music.AWESOME CDBeth Orton track is my favoritThe Ananda Project track is awesomeAll Alone is awesomeHell the whole CD is awesome. For those of us from the EDM world the mixing is not top notch but hell some of the songs are way of on BPM and time signiture anyway. I give it a 5 out of 5 without reservation, one of the top 3 B2M discs out there. Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

Long-time music connoiseurs and taste-makers Everything But the Girl (aka Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn) were naturals to take over the stereo for a volume in the chill-out mix series Back to Mine and, as could be expected, the mix is tasteful, wide-ranging, and above all, astonishingly well-paced. Beginning with a down-tempo hip-hop cut by French DJ Cam and moving into Slick Rick's excellent message track "All Alone (No One to Be With)," Back to Mine moves from jazzy rap and trip-hop into moody techno and deep house, with vocal tracks -- everyone from Beth Orton to Mary Margaret O'Hara to Donny Hathaway -- mixing very well with the instrumentals. Also appearing are two tracks by Detroit techno legends: a mix of "The Flow" by Juan Atkins' Model 500 and "A Wonderful Life from Carl Craig's Landcruising LP of 1995. Back to Mine is an excellent addition to the scads of mix albums on the shelves, as conscious of perfect transitions and solid mixing as any out there.

Biography

Everything But the Girl

Originating at the turn of the 1980s as a leader of the lite-jazz movement, Everything But the Girl became an unlikely success story more than a decade later, emerging at the vanguard of the fusion between pop and electronica. Founded in 1982 by Hull University students Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, the duo took their name from a sign placed in the window of a local furnit... Read more
