Although they have had their songs covered, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings are not known as a songwriters the way that Bacharach/David or Lennon and McCartney are. They were not known as professional songsmiths, nor were they bandleaders whose tunes were covered frequently even as their own band remained active. They are known as the leaders of the Guess Who, who had several huge hits with Bachman/Cummings songs in the '70s before the pair went their separate ways, with Bachman forming BachmanTurner Overdrive (with C.F. Turner, naturally enough) and Burton Cummings launching a solo career. The 2006 release The BachmanCummings Songbook essentially acts as a greatest hits for all three projects, gathering the biggest hits from the Guess Who, BTO and Cummings on one disc. Not that this has all the hits THIS is missing from the Guess Who but it has all the ones that are familiar from classic rock radio, which is why this is worthwhile for casual fans of the Guess Who, BTO and Cummings....
