  • All Music Guide

Striving for a bit more of an experimental sound with their third full-on electronic album, the Shamen slipped up a bit on the pop charts and thus failed to attract mainstream fans or the emerging listening-techno crowds. The singles "Transamazonia" and "Destination Eschaton" are enjoyable, but their one-two punch can't compare to En-Tact's "Make It Mine"/"Move Any Mountain" or Boss Drum's "L.S.I."/"Ebeneezer Goode." The rest of Axis Mutatis veers further into astral-hippie territory, though with fewer results than the past.
