The life and death of actor, comedian, and Hogan's Heroes star Bob Crane (1928-1978), as depicted in the book, The Murder of Bob Crane, by Robert Graysmith. In the years after Hogan's Heroes (1965-1971) was cancelled, Crane (Kinnear) became obsessed with sex, teaming up with video technician Johnny Carpenter (Dafoe) to document his many exploits, resulting from a life...
The life and death of actor, comedian, and Hogan's Heroes star Bob Crane (1928-1978), as depicted in the book, The Murder of Bob Crane, by Robert Graysmith. In the years after Hogan's Heroes (1965-1971) was cancelled, Crane (Kinnear) became obsessed with sex, teaming up with video technician Johnny Carpenter (Dafoe) to document his many exploits, resulting from a life spent trolling strip clubs, in a sort of amateur pornography. Crane was murdered in 1978 in Scottsdale, AZ, his skull crushed by a camera tripod, for which Carpenter was tried and acquitted, in an eight-week trial.

    Good but certainly not great

    This movie was definitely well done, and Greg Kinnear did give a wonderful performance. But I didn't feel like I really got to understand his character, former tv star, Bob Crane(maybe it was done on purpose, but I was kind of hoping for some insight...). It was entertaining but didn't really move me in any particular way. And the blurring of some of the home video footage was distracting because I kept trying to figure out if it was being censored or if it was done purposely to symbolize something. It was good at many parts, but I found myself checking the time a little too often. Read more Less

    I was very excited to see this movieHowever Greg Kinear makes the whole thing feelphonyhis acting is way too stiff he really does not make you feel like you know anything more about Bob Crane than you did before seeing the movieAlso for a movie made ...in 2002 about a sex obsessed man you could get a little more explicitThere is more nudity on an episode of Real World than in this movie (im not a perv or anything but come on)Willem Dafoe is excellent as John Carpenter Rita Wilson although excellent appears in maybe 10 minutes of the filmI enjoyed the DVD extras featuring the investigators talking about the actually case than the movie itselfoverall a downer Read more Less
