Arizona punk rockers Authority Zero pride themselves on hard work, an ethic driven into them through years of like-minded artists like Operation Ivy and Pennywise making their mark through sheer ambition. Made up of singers Jason DeVore and Jerry Douglas, guitarist Bill Marcks, bassist Jeremy Wood and drummer Jim Wilcox, the band formed in 1994 and almost immediately began performing five nights a week in their hometown, building a huge fanbase and making their first locally produced EP a massive success. Before the EP's 2001 release however, Douglas had already left the fold and the group was trying to gain attention from several labels. Eventually, Lava signed the band and hooked them up with Jane's Addiction producer Dave Jerden for their first album. Moving to Los Angeles for the duration of the recording process, the band lived it up while trying to get by on meager funds they had saved from their touring days. They even brought Douglas back to sing his original parts, showing loyalty that few bands in their shoes have done before. Finally, the finished record arrived in 2002 as A Passage in Time.
