Although dance duo Arling Cameron are based in Amsterdam, perhaps their closest musical affiliation lies in the eclectic late-'90s Japanese lounge/dance/pop scene. Gerry Arling and Richard Cameron first got together in 1994, when they threw a so-called "Easy Tune" series of parties in Amsterdam; singles culled from the shows were released on Cameron's own Drive-In label, and a compilation, The Best of Easy Tune, was issued in 1996. Arling Cameron scored a Dutch hit that year with "Aloha," and went on to author tunes for the Pizzicato Five (Happy End of the World's "Arigato We Love You") and the Fantastic Plastic Machine ("Bachelor Pad"). The duo's single "Voulez-Vous" was released in the U.S. in 1998, and was followed early the next year by their first full-length, All In. The album Music for Imaginary Films appeared in early 2000, with a few songs being used for TV commercials and shows such as The Sopranos. The duo kept to their annual album pace with the release of We Are AC in 2001.
