Arizona Dranes
A blind pianist/shouter, Arizona Dranes (born Juanita Dranes) is one of the little-known heroines of early gospel. One of the first to play piano in the ragtime-influenced "barrelhouse" style, Dranes helped to create the musical foundation of the Sanctified Church. Her vocals, which featured call-and-response choruses, showed the power of female choral singing.
