    The Webcam is back--and with dignity. Apple has replaced tainted memories of the risqu JenniCam with visions of smiling grandmas videoconferencing on iChat AV (see p26). Apple would love iSight to be your FireWire Webcam of choice, and it should be--if you've got the cash. The iSight is a stylish and high-quality Webcam. It comes with three mounts: one that sticks to the back of your flat-panel display, one that sticks to the top of your CRT, and one that clips nonpermanently to your laptop screen. Each mount lets you swivel and tilt the camera. After connecting one end of the plenty-long FireWire cable to the iSight by means of a somewhat clumsy adapter, just plug the other end into your Mac and watch as iChat AV configures it--no drivers required. We were also able to use iSight with the video-capture shareware BTV ($20, www.bensoftware.com). Picture quality is crisp.
