    Best Portable MP3 Player

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 5, 2004 | 132 out of 159 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: Small, powerful, great sound, quick setup, massive storage

    Cons: None, yet!

Apple did it again. The most impressive thing about this MP3 player is the quick setup. It took me less than 30 mins to install the software and download over 700 songs to my iPod. Every song sounds so great even with the ear bud headphones. The ...battery last me all day and automatically charges from my laptop battery. I love it! Read more Less

Apple comes with another good player!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 19, 2004 | 57 out of 69 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: It’s popular, longer battery life, the click wheel makes it even easier to use the iPod, both USB 2.0 and Firewire cables are now included

Cons: The battery is still non-user replaceable, battery life while good can be better, the carrying case, remote, and the dock does not come with the 20gb iPod anymore

I ordered this new iPod about 2 weeks ago off apple.com and I can say that it’s a pretty good player. This is my first ever mp3 player and I think it’s pretty good. At first I was thinking about getting the Dell DJ, before this new iPod came out. H...owever, I saw the new iPod on Cnet.com and suddenly changed my mind because of its great review. iPods aren't exactly budget friendly, but if you have the money, this can be an excellent buy. The new 4th gen. iPod now lasts up to 12 hours compared to the 3rd gen's 8 hour. Also, the 4th gen. iPod has the new click wheel found also on the iPod mini where the menu, forward, rewind, play/pause buttons are now on the wheel and can be clicked in to activate their functions. This new iPod also ships with a USB 2.0 cable along with the Firewire cable, which is less of a hassle for people who do not have Firewire, as they do not have to buy a USB cable. Also, if you buy a 20 GB or 40 GB 4th gen. iPod off apple.com between June 27, 2004 through September 25, 2004, you can get the back of your iPod custom laser engraved for free. This usually costs 20 dollars, which is a pretty nice deal. Now to the cons:The Dock, Remote, or Carrying Case is now part of the apple accessories and do not ship with the 20 GB 4th gen. iPod. They each cost 39 dollars, which if you ask me is a rip-off but I guess that’s how apple does business… also the battery will eventually die off or may not last long enough and since it is non-user replaceable, you must send it to apple itself to replace the battery which costs 99 dollars, another rip-off if you ask me...Another thing about the iPod is getting the (expensive) accessories... one thing that you CANNOT live without if you own an iPod is some kind of protection... this thing scratches really easily, and you really don't want to put it in your pocket unless you have some kind of protection for the aluminum back and the screen... If you ask me the only accessory you need is the carrying case, its really handy if you don't have any pockets and you can't hold it in your hand and at the same time, protects it from scratching; I think you can live without the dock and the remote control but then again that’s just me...Overall, I think that apple has another winner with this new iPod. iPods are the hot thing around America, and I think apple has done enough to attract more customers to their iPods. I think what really won me over to the iPod instead of the Dell DJ is their design, the longer battery life (although their battery life is still shorter than most of its competitors), and the fact that its popular around America. I'm not saying Dell has a bad mp3 player, in fact, I believe its a good alternative to the iPod if you don't want to spend that much money, but if you ever wondered what its like to have an iPod or always wanted one, I think now is the time to buy it. And I'm glad I waited for this new iPod to come out, because I would have bought the Dell DJ instead of this, and although I would have been happy just getting an mp3 player, I might have regretted not getting this fabulous mp3 player. Apple did it first, Apple continues to do it best.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 8, 2004 | 45 out of 46 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: High asthetic value, has Apple's reputation, easy to setup and use, high storage

Cons: Expensive, scratches very easily, barebones, must use PC to make changes to the iPod

Before I address the various Pros and Cons of the 4th Generation Apple iPod, let me say that this is probably the best purchase I have ever made. That being said, let's examine the iPod:Pros - High Asthetic Value: When it comes to mp3 player...s, the Apple iPod is the "Ferrari" of them all. It's minimalist look is a highly coveted feature that no competetor has even tried to match.Has Apple's Reputation: Apple has established itself as a leader in making high-end electronics with superior quality. Not only is the iPod no different, it raises the bar. Apple has set the standard by which all other mp3 players are measured.Easy to Setup and Use: The Apple iPod comes with the popular iTunes software. It is extremely easy to use and automatically uploads your entire My Music folder to it's library and transfer it to your iPod without you having to press a button. High Storage: The Apple iPod comes with 20GB of storage space or 5000 songs at 128KPS. Unless you have a seriously large music collection, this is more than enough space.Cons - Expensive: The Apple iPod is generally about $50 more expensive than the leading competetors with the same amount of storage.Scratches Very Easily: I've noticed several other people hit on this in their reviews. This is probably the worst thing about the iPod. Not that it's a serious problem, it's just that the iPod is pretty close to flawless. The Apple iPod scratches extremely easily. When I bought mine, it had several scratches on it within a day. You might consider purchasing a carrying case or iSkin protectors with your iPod.Barebones: The Apple iPod no longer comes with several of the accessories it used to. It comes with the iTunes software, a wall charger, a FireWire cable, a USB 2.0 cable, and a set of earbud headphones. The other accessories you must purchase yourself which can get to be expensive real quick.Must Use PC to Make Changes to the iPod: This is more annoying than anything else. To delete, add, or move songs on the iPod, you must use the iTunes software on your computer. The iPod's firmware does not allow you to do this on the actual unit itself. Playlists also have to be moderated through iTunes.I hope that this review has helped you in your decision to buy or not to buy the Apple iPod. My personal reccomendation is to spend the extra money and get one. It is well worth the extra expense. Read more Less

    I-pod v. 4

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 16, 2004 | 26 out of 30 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: ease of use, I-tunes interface, small size

    Cons: freezes during exercise

My wife bought this for me for my birthday. I am 49 and semi tech savvy. I thought I would have difficulty navigating the features, downloading music and transferring it to the I-pod. I was wrong, it was very easy to use. I-tunes is a pleasure to... play with. Frankly I was obsessed with putting together my libary and playlists for about two weeks, and I still love to tweak it here and there. The I-pod is well supported on the website, and I was able to figure out how to reset it after it froze while I was on the treadmill. That is annoying, but it is easily taken care of.It's also highly accessorized. I especially like using the FM transmitter which lets me take 3,500 songs to work to play through my stereo or play them in the car with relative ease. The I-pod is highly recommended. Just got the last of the 40Gigs

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 9, 2005 | 11 out of 12 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: Small, Sexy, Good Sound, Easy to Use Menu

Cons: Battery doesnt not last more than 8 hours brand new, Back is scratched after 1 week; iTunes really messed up my music folder; Replacement battery service costs $99

So I just got the last of the 4th generation 40 gigs, Apple announced they were going to stop selling them, so the price went down. its a great machine, formatted it allows 37.1 gigs. most of my music is 192kbits/s so it only fits about 7,250 songs w...hich is almost 3 weeks of non-stop music so who's complaining. unfortunately, ive had it a week and the back of it is already getting scratched up and im sure it'll look like my roommates in no time (Apple really could have made a less shiny back but they want to sell more crap to you)...the battery works for 12 hours if u have the following options OFF: backlight OFF, equalier OFF, shuffling OFF, sound turned down, and you press play all and never touch it again. I get 8 hours MAX even with backlight off. IF you have your own system of organization for your MP3s, then MAKE SURE you dont let iTunes work its own system on your files; you end up with artist folders with one song and weird file names. other than those things its great so far ill be using it on my next flight which is the real reason i bought it. Get one

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 21, 2004 | 7 out of 7 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: Great storage, fast, and easy to use

    Cons: Scratches easy

Although the price may give you a heartattack, this is a serious product that will offer what you need. If you are expecting to listen to alot of music and use this as a hardrive, this is perfect. I have never used such a perfect item in my life. Alt...hough the battery power is 12 hours, hindering usage of long amounts of time, the storage is great. Theres alot of good things that could come out of this. This product can be used as a hardrive for pictures, right from you r camera. All you have to do is buy a reader that complys with the usage of Ipod and you can save 20 GBs worth of music files and pictures. Even though i am posting at yahoo, i do not reccomend purchasing from here. The best place to purchase is Apple.com which includes educational, business, and goverment discounts making the price of $277 to $269 saving you a lot of money. I also recommend purchasing from a different state that they sell it from because the sales tax is at extremes. Overall i think you will enjoy this and have fun. Read more Less

This is the best MP3 Player on the Market!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 20, 2004 | 6 out of 6 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: Easy downloading of Music, Crystal Clear Playback, Easy to use and easy to set-up, Huge capacity- 5,000 songs!

    Cons: None

This is the gold standard in MP3 players. I have owned 3 different ones (Creative-Nomad player, I-River and and RCA Lyra), and ALL had issues and had to be returned. Either the music didn't download properly, the unit wouldn't set-up, etc. ... Also, none of these even came REMOTELY close to the capacity of the I-pod. When I went to set-up the I-pod it was quick- I was up and downdoading songs within 15-20 minutes. I am using the I-tunes software with the I-pod, and it's just as impressive as the player. Sonds are ripped within 3-5 min per CD and I was able to transfer 700 songs from my computer to the I-pod in 5 minutes. Also, the souind quality is almost better than the original CD. The unit with the click wheel is very easy to use and there is a large screen that displays everything clearly. The coolest thing I've bought in quite a while- worth every penny! Read more Less

Apple leads the way, can they keep the lead?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 2, 2004 | 5 out of 5 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: Ease of use, lots of features, Good battery life

Cons: Scratches EXTREMELY easily, Quite Expensive

I own the Apple iPod myself. I got a 20GB 4Generation. The back, scratches easily and its expensive. It comes with no case or dock. The accessories build up quite quick. Other than that, the click wheel is a great design. Could they make the battery ...cheaper to replace? or User replace-able? Its expensive to maintain an iPod, but its worth the money. Go for it. THE IPOD

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 28, 2004 | 6 out of 8 found this Apple iPod 20GB review helpful

Pros: Easy use, small, great sound, lots of storage

Cons: scratches easily, lots of money

The apple Ipod can store so many songs that you probably wouldn't even need the 5,000 songs. It is very lightwieght and small and organizes all you music so your not searching through everything to try to find a song.
