    POWER on a budget

By Luis Francisco Daniel  Jul 17, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Apple iBook G4 1.33Ghz review helpful

Pros: Small and light, powerful, adequate for day-to-day computing, good materials quality, OS X 10.4, good feature bundle

Cons: Limited hard drive size, gets dirty easily, ComboDrive only

The latest review of the PowerPC-based iBook is a good example of power and style associated with value. If you like the equation, most likely you will want to own this laptop. Its solid polycarbonate-based construction with inner magnesium framing i...s proof that this laptop was built to last and endure even the most harsh situations. Aesthetically the iBook will leave you wondering how is it that so much power can fit in such a small space and functionally, the iBook with all its hardware features, such as Bluetooth, Airport, the Motion Sensor among others, along with the latest revision of the Mac OS X operating system, "Tiger", will have you reflexing on why didn't you make the switch to Mac earlier. It is no secret that Apple has put a lot of effort in the last revision of its consumer-oriented iBook, although it misses some spots drastically. It only has 40GB of hard drive space just to see that when you take it out of the box and turn it on for the first time, you have half that space eaten up by Mac OS X, iLife '05 and iWork '05 plus other bundled applications which you can uninstall too, to free disk space; and 512MB of RAM is maybe just a little if you plan on getting some serious work done. Overall, the last iBook G4 is an amazing machine at an unbeatable price that's sure to leave you satisfied if you're not an extremely demanding individual when it comes to computing power (i. e. extreme video/DVD authoring, power computing and other processor-intensive tasks). Pros: Looks good, works well, reliable, and easy to use.

Cons: Video cables hard to find.

This laptop is easy to use and not very heavy. The 14'' model is the most practical in the family line. It has a full functional keyboard that is very responsive. It has good connections that include: phone, e-net, fire-wire, USB 2.0, RGB vid...eo and audio out.My unit runs constantly for up to 2 or 3 weeks at a time. I only shut it down when transporting it on a trip. The only problem I have had is finding a cable to connect a monitor or TV. It comes with a mini-RGB cable when new. But I bought mine second-hand. Apple's specs on this cable/adapter is slim. Here in 2009, Apple no longer sells the cable. Also Apple monitors do not have a connection that will plug into this iBook with out a special adaptor.
