If you need the utmost power for creative design, education, or business, the PowerBook G4 is ready to provide it wherever you go. Making a notebook computer the slimmest and lightest in its category shouldn't have to mean making compromises in performance and functionality. What makes a supercomputer "super" is its ability to execute at least one billion floating-point operations per second. It's a staggering measure of speed known as a "gigaflop". In addition, the PowerPC G4 can perform four (in some cases eight) 32-bit floating-point calculations in a single cycle - two to four times faster than traditional processors. The PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine works with the PowerPC architecture to accelerate the data-intensive processing required by next-generation video, voice and graphics applications.

Among the G4 key features is a vector permute function capable of rearranging data in the registers - a priceless benefit when converting data from one format to another (often necessary with voice, video and graphics applications, which typically need to save data in a number of different formats). These vector-processing acceleration advantages give the G4 microprocessor a significant edge when it comes to fast visualization of large data sets and intensive math for real-time simulations, making the PowerPC G4 perfect for everything from digital video, graphics and 3D games to astronomy, the biosciences and predictive modeling.

    Pros: Mac OS, stability, Apple support, iLife

    Cons: battery life

    Being a poor podcaster, I would have loved the 17" Powerbook, but couldn't afford one. But I am still amazed that more people haven't switched to Mac. I can work with all of the documents from the dark side (Windows) but I have the stabi...ltiy and reliability of the Mac OS. Read more Less

    Pros: user freindly Applications and weight

    Cons: shorter than expected battery life.

    My business is residentail computer repair so I see alot of computers on a daily basis. The Apple products are the best at reliabilty and once you become acustomed to the OS its a breeze. I use iweb to share photo's of my son's baseball team... to all the team parents and I get nothing but excellent feedback. Surfing the web is easier because there has been no threats from virus's and I save money by not having to buy antivirus or spyware software. Apple comes with it's own utilities for disk maintanance and also has a very good no nonsense firewall to keep out intruders.with the firewall you have many settings to make your computer safe and if your abit handy with your computer you can change settings to include stealth mode.Applecare has been exceptional with phone support as well as walkins to the apple store, and you will get someone who you can understand as well.Last but not least is the battery life, my battery lasts about 3 hours of surfing may 2 if iam working on something like iweb. I have purchased an extra battery but to tell you the truth, if I'm on the computer longer than an hour I need to take a break. Read more Less
